Cinematography in "The Machinist". |
|
Holy cow... This movie is an orgy of muted greens, greys, and blues.
It's gorgeous.

There's a "spin" for ya.
Someone digs a tunnel between the US and Canada, and the media dares to suggest it was to get IN to the US?!
That would be a first.
Remember all those black folks who used the Underground Railroad to escape freedom in Upper Canada, for the preferred slavery of the US?
Or how about all those Literature majors who needed a pipeline to desert their subsidised Masters programs for the moist, exciting climate of Viet Nam?

7. I won't let you pollute my mind with your fancy words. |
|
People who have nothing to hide and who tell the truth use simple words. SIMPLE. Words like "evil" and "fuck".
And you're just trying to get revenge on the US for pushing all those black folks into your country, ya damn prejudice frogs. :dunce:

9. Hitchcock meets Poe... with a little bit of "Jacob's Ladder" thrown in... |
|
for good measure.
It's visually stunning, in its use of muted tones, and (please forgive me for getting all "film school on your ass") the juxtaposition between light and shadow.
The subtle visual cues, and the clever use of foreshadow on a number of levels was...well... amazing.
And the score is very, very Hitchcock, and excellent. And there's even some Theramin in there, which is never a bad thing.
And, yes, Christian Bale is great in this. I'm amazed this movie gfot as little fanfare as it did. There are some Oscar worthy performances in it. Not just Bale, but the supporting cast, also.
Creepy. The movie is creepy.

8. When I saw it...the first thing I thought of was : Hitchcock. |
|
I mean, the whole film. Just a perfect homage to Alfred Hitchcock.
An excellent film. Christian Bale is very good in it.
