What are your guilty pleasure songs ?
You know , the songs that you secretly listen to and dance to alone and pray that none of your friends find out that you like it ?

I am not telling you mine until you tell me yours

6. All kinds of silly (or not) 80's songs
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 02:27 AM by Gentle Giant
And, I mean ALL KINDS.

When I was in high school during the early to mid 80's, I was a laughing stock because I simultaneously loved Iron Maiden and Duran Duran. Still do. It's just that now that I'm being asked, I can't come up with any good specifics.... :(

Okay, on further reflection, here's one from the early 90's:

"Twiggy Twiggy" (also known as "Twiggy Vs. James Bond") by Pizzicato Five.

Or, how about "Funkytown" by Lipps, Inc. from 1980?

Or, "Somebody's Watching Me", with those famous Michael Jackson backing vocals, by Rockwell, from 1983?

Or, "Whip It", by the Dazz Band?

And even "Rock Me Amadeus" by Falco! Which, by the way, has been named repeatedly as one of the worst songs of all time here on DU. And you would think I would agree with that being a prog rock elitist, but NOOOOOOPE!!

Okay, there's some of mine. YOUR TURN, SUCKA!!

On edit: Oh MAN, how the HELL did I get Devo and the Dazz Band's tunes confused? I feel like such a total tard now. :eyes:

14. Alright here are mine > You pulled it out of me LOL
I love Duran Duran - I am a Duranie . Loved them since I was a tiny tot . I am 24 ( will be 25 in a month to this day ) so that means I was just itsy bitsy CarolinaPeridot when they were making their mark on MTV - but I still had ( and still have ) the biggest crush on John Taylor -who is the ONLY guy who could wear a mullet and still look hot ;) - Actually right now " Girls On Film " (just came on at random . My dear I was only 1 years old when that came out . WOW ! Still sounds good to me today . My friends hurry and change the station whenever a Duran Duran song comes on the radio because I lose my mind - its true !

And that " Whip It " by the Dazz Band always make me dance - I remember dancing to that song in the living room with my mom :)

All of my guilty pleasure songs are from the 80's :
- " Too Shy " - Kajagoogoo ( The instrumental version of is excellent )
- anything by Duran Duran
- anything by Janet Jackson
- anything by Madonna - I actually like everything from before 1996 . Now , she lost me completely
- That " One Night In Bangkok " song . :: shakes head ::
- " Somebody's Watching Me " by Rockwell is too cool . I love the Michael Jackson chorus . I always said I wanted to remake this with new lyrics if my record deal dreams ever came true ...
- basically anything 80's
- oh yeah I almost forgot - WHAM ! and George Michael

34. OH MY GOD!!!
"One Night In Bangkok", by Murray Head!! Yes, that song is just da fuggin' BOMB!!!

I even remember listening to the weekly top-40 show with Casey Kasem, and when that song was peaking in the charts (didn't do all that badly if I remember, hit the top-20 at least) they did a short blurb about how the whole thing was written. It seems that since it was for the musical "Chess" they just did the music first and then let the mood of the song guide them as to what the lyrics should be, plugging in words almost at random. The line "One night in Bangkok" ended up in there for the first line of the chorus, and it struck Murray Head as so appropriate that the entire lyrics ended up formed around it.

And I have a head that's just full to bursting with useless trivia like that.

I also have the videos to " Sunrise " ( which I think was an excellent come back single " , " Reflex " ( I wish I was in that audience - the scene with guy in the audience dancing in the stands was out of sight ) , " Rio " ( this video makes zero sense to me but I love it ) , " Hungry Like The Wolf " , " Ordinary World " , and " Wild Boys " . I am the total Duran Duran geek ;) \

10. Hey man, there is... er, WAS...
NOTHING wrong with Michael Jackson!

"Off the Wall" and "Thriller" are two of the most infectious and addictive albums of all time. "Bad" is another decent one, but from there his music went downhill in direct relation to his physical mutation.

He's getting exactly what he deserves for the (at least) highly inappropriate things he's admitted to, let alone been accused of. But, I still think the whole thing is one HUGE tragedy and I feel horrible for him that nobody could confront him and get him to seek some help for whatever demons he's plagued with. :(

20. I love this song, and for some reason I should hate it, or so I'm told
There Goes The Neighborhood (Sheryl Crow)

Hey let's party
Let's get down
Let's turn the radio on
This is the meltdown
Get out the camera
Take a picture
The drag queens and the freaks
Are all out on the town
And cowboy Jane's in bed
Nursing a swollen head

Sunshine Sally and Peter Ustinov
Don't like the scene any how
I dropped acid on a Saturday night
Just to see what the fuss was about
Now there goes the neighborhood

The photo chick made to look sickly
Is standing in her panties in the shower
She plays the guitar in the bathroom
While the police dust her mother's plastic flowers
And Schoolboy John's in jail
Making a killing through the U.S. mail

Sunshine Sally and Peter Ustinov
Don't like the scene any how
I dropped acid on a Saturday night
Just to see what the fuss was about
Now there goes the neighborhood

This is the movie of the screenplay
Of the book about a girl who meets a junkie.
The messenger gets shot down
Just for carrying the message to a flunkie.
We can't be certain who the villans are 'cuz everyone's so pretty
But the afterparty's sure to be a wing-ding as it moves into your
city

I wish: I want to stay here
I wish: this be enough
I wish: I only love you
I wish: simplicity

Look at the speed out there
It magnetizes me to it
And I have no fear
I'm only into this to

Enjoy

I wish I'd only look
And didn't have to touch
I wish I'd only smell this
And didn't have to taste

How can I ignore?
This is sex without touching
I'm going to explore
I'm only into this to

Enjoy

45. Shanty...
Jonathan Edwards

Shanty

Gonna sit down in the kitchen
And fix me something good to eat
And make my head a little high
And make this whole day complete
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

Well pass it to me baby
Pass it to me slow
We'll take time out to smile a little
Before we let it go
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

Well there ain't nothin' to do
And there's always room for more
Fill it, light it, shut up
And close the door
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

We gonna sit around the kitchen
Fix us somethin' good to eat
And make ourselves a little high
And make the whole day complete
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on
Cuz we gonna lay around the shanty, mama
And put a good buzz on

Im just sitting here waiting for you

My poor heart

Since you've been gone
After all you're the one who turns me off
You're the only one who can turn me back on

My hi-fi is waiting for a new tune
My glass is waiting for some fresh ice cubes
