Can't upload my own avatar - FAQ didn't answer my question |
|
Just wanted to have my own avatar.
But I get the following error when I click the very first upload button:
Error: There was a discrepancy found in your identification for uploading images to the server. Please back out of the user menu and try again.
What does _that_ mean?
P.S., I am at about 127 posts now. Is that just too small to use the avatar upload thingy?
Thanks, Fred Stembottom:dunce:

3. Ok - be patient with me here........ |
|
I get the error message before I even get to the part where I specify the image or it's format - I _think_. If you look at the place in "My Profiles" where uploading an avatar happens, I get the error with the very first click - where all I am saying is I would _like_ to upload.
Or am I missing something?

4. You mean "Options" -> "Edit your Profile" then... |
|
under "Avatar Image" you click the "Upload" link... is that where the error is happening? Right after clicking that link?
If so, do you even get a popup window with Step 1 and Step 2 and a Browse button? Or do you just get that error?
And... in order to cover all the bases...
If you haven't already tried this... delete your cookies and close all your browser windows and try again.
Also... what browser are you using? Internet Explorer, Firefox?

Under "avatar image" I click "upload" and immediately get the error. Don't even get to the checkboxes or to "Browse for image".
Using AOL browser. I can switch to IE if that would help?

6. Try IE.... sounds like either a cookie problem... |
|
or some other setting in the browser (maybe a popup blocker?) that is causing the error.

And, yes, there is a popup-blocker involved. Maybe I'll switch that off first.

here is a copy of the rules regarding Avatars, check the last section. Your username, signature line, and avatar image
All registered members must select a forum username which will appear with all of their posts. Members are expected to take care when selecting their usernames, which cannot be changed once they have been selected. Do not select a username that could be considered inappropriate or disruptive to the community.
Members have the option of including a short signature line at the end of each post, and donors have the option of uploading a small avatar image which appears in the margin next to each post.
Your signature line and your avatar image must adhere to the community standards for this message board. Do not use your signature line or avatar image as a means to disrupt the message board. If either your signature line or avatar image is judged to be disruptive, you will be asked to remove it or change it. The administrators have the final authority to decide what is considered disruptive.
Your signature line may not include more than one graphic at any time. That graphic should be in either .jpg or .gif format, and should not exceed 500 pixels wide, 200 pixels tall, or 10 kilobytes. Limit the text in your signature line to only one paragraph, quote, idea, or comment. You are permitted to change the color and font of your signature line text, but you may not increase the text size.
Your avatar image should be in either .jpg or .gif format, and should be no more than 3 kilobytes. We recommend that you crop your avatar to exactly 48 pixels wide and 48 pixels tall.
