ATTENTION Artists: Design A Ribbon Magnet In The Shape Of A PEACE Sign!
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 12:45 PM by arwalden
I'm sick of the yellow ribbon magnets that are attacked sideways (to resemble the Christian fish).

Even though there may be some folks who oppose the war AND display the common yellow-ribbon-magnet design... for the MOST PART that design has been hijacked by the PRO-war Bush-lovers.

We need something NEW and IMPROVED. -- The yellow-ribbon would still symbolize my support for the SAFE RETURN of our troops, but having it form the shape of a PEACE sign would leave little doubt that I *oppose* the war.

It would take some artistry... but certainly someone has GOT to be talented enough to come up with a simple line-art image that shows a yellow ribbon flowing and looping into the shape of a peace sign. Both ends of the ribbon would need to be visible (flowing to each side) so that folks could easily tell that it is indeed a variation of the other "yay-war" and "git-r-done" yellow ribbons.

I can't draw it... I can only visualize it and try to describe it.

-- Allen

3. For the love of.......please don't make it ribbon shaped.
Although, I do think a magnetic peace sign would be cool.

4. I have a ribbon with a peace-sign on it
It's blue and white and says "Bring the Troops Home." But I see what you mean. Incorporating a peace-sign into the shape would be good.

5. My mom and I made a yellow peace sign car magnet
It's not "ribbonized", just a regular peace sign, but we made it when the yellow ribbons were in their prime.

We got sheet magnet stuff, cut it with an exacto knife and spray painted it yellow. :)

9. Alright, but I need to get paid for my work.
How many artists have been told, "You make art because you enjoy doing it, so you shouldn't mind not getting paid for it?"

21. It depends
I devote a lot of my creative time to the causes I support, and gladly give time and work to those causes when I can without charging. However, the reply was made in jest.

If I'm actually working on someone's private website I do charge for the work. But I try not to charge if I'm passionate about the causes. I designed a whole site some years ago now, when I was working with an animal rights group in L.A. And while I didn't get paid for it, I did it because I had the ability to do so, and because it gave me great satisfaction to help out in a way that used my creative juices.

23. I agree with your reply.
But, man, how many unicorn pictures have you had to refuse to make?
For the right cause, I'm there. For an anonymous post almost demanding some anonymous artist should make this design? And who would handle the manufacturing and distribution? Someone's going to make some money from that kind of enterprise. Why shouldn't we? An artist's gotta eat.

10. Here is a link to something that might serve your purpose

www.bringthemhome.info/

There is a magnet (don't know where it's made) which is a good alternative to the yellow ribbons. It states: "Support the troops, bring them home".

On Edit: it's the same one on Bertha katzenengel's post.

12. Glad to be of assistance
BTW, if you purchase one, there is a point where you can indicate which charitable organization directed to this site. So if you do purchase one, could you type VFP in this spot so Veterans for Peace could be tossed a penny or two? Thanks, we need all the financial support we can get.

16. What was the one we used in the 60s?
It was something like "War is not good (or something) for children and all living things." It used to be written around the edge of the peace symbol.

Didn't read entire thread; if someone else has pointed this out already, forgive it please.

... I wish I was a talented artist. I like the concepts, but I just can't transfer the idea to paper (or the computer screen). Sigh.

24. The ribbon on my car is white with blue lettering.
It's got a peace sign on one side and says "Bring the troops home now!" on the other. I still stand with Dennis!:hippie:

Though, to be honest, I've long also sported a traditional "Support the Troops" ribbon. But mine is red, white and blue. Those yellow ones are just plain ugly. And don't match my car. I stuck that one on the back of my car when I began displaying my "New Yorkers for Kerry-Edwards" sticker. I stuck it in between that and my DU sticker. I live in a red district and was hoping to keep from being rear-ended. I've heard about incidents and actually have had people attack me verbally. But it's gotten to the point that I don't care what anyone thinks. I know that I'm right and they're wrong and that's all I need to know. I know enough now to take on any Freeper. And I am proud of my peace ribbon.
:kick:
