Has anyone ever stopped for those kids spinning "Condos for Sale" signs?
It seems like a phenomenon here in Denver. They're out every weekend on almost every major intersection.

Do people actually go out driving and decide on a whim to stop and look at some condos because some kid is dancing around and twirling a red sign? It's cool if they do it so more kids can have jobs, but I also have to assume it's effective to some degree. What's the deal?

1. People really do that?
I saw it on the Simpsons but I didn't think there were actual people spinning "Condos for Sale" signs.

4. It is odd..
And they don't just spin the sign one way.. They have a routine like: Spin 5 times left, then 5 times right, kick it with their foot, do a 360 body-pirouette then flip the sign forward.. Repeat.

I really doubt this is just a Denver thing. If the Simpsons spoofed it, it must be national. I'm sure it's also caused some auto accidents because it's not easy to ignore.

5. They did that on the Simpsons
Spin 5 times left, then 5 times right, kick it with their foot

That's just what Milhouse's dad was doing! It's weird when you see something parodied before actually seeing the thing that is the target of the parody. I saw the McLaughlin Group parody on Saturday Night Live long before I ever saw the real thing. I would never have guessed how true to life it really was, Dana Carvey's pouty-lipped "Bye bye!"

3. I have never seen that here
But we do have women who stand in intersections and collect money for a battered women's shelter that doesn't exist.

6. Bah!
One of the worst things that ever happened to me. Stopping at an intersection and seeing some woman staggering up screaming, falling to the ground, struggling to get back up all the while shrieking "Help me, help me!" I thought she'd been in an accident or had been whacked by a carjacker or something. I saw her a few more times at around the same intersection, pulling that stunt on other terrified drivers.
