Tequila Sunrise rocks!
On edit:
I didn't check the spelling because I didn't think about it and couldn't be bothered. :P

8. just tequila and ice....... |
|
Though read the other poster - there ARE much better tequilas for sipping straight.
Although the shock factor - in my wanton youth - of brushing off the salt - throwing away the lime - and just drinking the t-kill-ya straight - was pretty priceless...

9. don't know if this is still active, but.... |
|
basically the filler is "rum" - cane distillate, and the gold color is caramel - same as cola and various other "tinted" beverages - aged tequila will have a slight gold tint, depending on what its aged in but the real "bright" color is fake.
Lots of premium brands out there now - some pretty gimicky (nice bottles though!) but if you ever try a fresh bottle of anejo or reposado you won't go back. Watch out for the bottoms of bottles that have been opened for a long time - tequila oxidizes and get quite rasty over time - my rule of thumb: drink the first half straight and use the second half for margaritas etc.
Oh and if you ever want to get spoiled about margaritas use cointreu (spell?) instead of triple sec. And NEVER blend or use mixes. Real lemon or lime, a little syrup if you must have sweet, tequila and cointreue on cracked ice. MMMMMMMMM is it too early in the morning?

5. cuervo gold is not tequila |
|
Especial is 100% but Gold is fake. Try Sauza at the very least. I like Heradura for "everyday" - lots of good anejos for sipping out there - even Cuervo Especial is not bad.
Always make sure it says 100% agave (agave azul)

Well is IS Tequila - maybe not 100% agave - but a mixto nonetheless. Hey - it's better than the El Toro I used to drink over ice....
Though you're right, there are better Tequilas.
I'll tell you the truth - I don't drink that much anymore. It's been a "few years" since I sipped straight tequila - so I don't remember the brand names anymore. Back then I didn't have $$ to burn so I usually drank just the "cheap stuff". Which was one of the reasons I would drink it straight (same with Scotch/water.) If I had a "mixed drink" - I would drink it too fast - and wind up A) getting trashed; and B) spending Way too much $$.
Funny story - waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in my younger days. I was at a "tavern" where a number of local biker-types would come in to play pool on occasion. (I looked like suziesuburb most of the time....) I was drinking my usual tequila on the rocks - and one guy asked me why I was "drinking water?" I told him it wasn't -blah blah blah - a lot of "manly posturing" on his part - bets ensued - then he grabs my glass and takes a huge gulp. He choked and sputtered so bad! But he did buy my drinks the rest of the night.

Sonora style homemade bootleg tequila (not mescal). There is actually now a commercial release available in the US but its not that good - it is made from a different species of agave and the good stuff it real smokey like how I wish good scotch would taste (I just can't do whiskeys)
And it makes you more intelligent - guaranteed! ;-)
