Nitpick about "Enterprise" last night
OK, so there were these parasites living in Archer's hippocampus, preventing him from forming new short-term memories. These parasites seem to exist partly outside normal space-time, so that when the doctor removes one of them, they disappear in old scans as well. But the doctor remembers they were there, and suggests that all record of the ones he destroyed were erased from time.

But if that were true, he wouldn't remember that they'd been there, and he'd think the procedure was a failure, because he'd see no change between the old scans, and the new.

Or, at best, he'd infer what had happened, because he finds he was aiming at a point where the parasite had never been. (Still just as problematic as his remembering they were there, but not as blatantly so.)

2. I'm no fun to watch Sci-Fi with
I nitpick.

The people who dragged me to Waterworld, however, remarked it was like having their own MST3k team with them. I tore that movie a new one.

4. It DID make me really hate the Xindi, however.
What kind of people would blow up Earth, and all of Earth's colonies because of some vague warning from the future that Earth would destroy them, and then, not content to have reduced humanity to 6,000, continue pursuing until all were dead?

5. Yes down with the Xindi
But that was a cool ship. and the Earth blowing. Mind Blowing. I just love all Star trek. Even the lame episodes.

DDQM-BTW, T'Pol aged very gracefully

7. Roddenberry spins in his grave
The horrendous writing and asinine plotlines make the new series a disgrace to Star Trek.

8. Nitpicker!
Yeah, that's the catch isn't it?

I was wondering how they were going to do it though. I knew at the beginning of the episode it was either an alternate universe, a time-plot, or an alien mind-fuck...They went with the time-plot...

Still, I liked it, it was entertaining...

9. You think too much
;)

Star Trek is best enjoyed with the mind turned off. That realization had occurred to me, but I decided against thinking about it too much because the episode, all told, was one of the best of the season so far.

The episode was trying to do two things, and it did both well. First, they laid the groundwork for a potential relationship between Archer and T'Pol (and not a superficial sexual "Worf and Deanna" relationship either, but a deep emotional committment...something new to the Star Trek series'). Secondly, they did something that the writers had failed miserably in until now: They made the viewer understand the desperation of the situation and the barbarity of their opponent. The Zindi have now been firmly established as a people with a deep and abiding hatred for humanity who will not rest until every last human man woman and child is murdered, simply because they suspect that we MIGHT do them harm one day (sidebar: According to Bush, we should be supporting the Zindi. After all, they're just conducting pre-emptive strikes to protect their planetary interests :eyes:). We have been shown the results of failure, and why the Enterprise's success is so important.

10. Yup, the 9/11 parallels are unmistakable
especially in last weeks episode, where Archer ended up deciding NOT to blow the colony away...Star Trek is tackling the 9/11 issue and the moral implications in responding to a terrorist attack!

11. Well, the ST universe has ALWAYS had a liberal/leftist slant to it
United Federation of Planets, united Earth governments, governments dedicated to helping the people, universal health care, universal sufferage, no discrimination, liberal sexuality...the list goes on and on. I think it's pretty obvious that the left leaning political views of the writers have gone far to craft the universe, and that those views often permeate the storylines of the individual shows. The entire current Zindi story arc seems to be demonstrating the stupidity of the "pre-emptive strike" concept by placing an obviously innocent Earth in the crosshairs of a more powerful enemy.
