Poll question: What do goths really like?
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 12:19 AM by ChavezSpeakstheTruth
Let's get to the bottom of this incredibly important question.

And before I get to the poll, let me outlay a subjectively relevant tidbit:

9. Visigoths were just one division of the Goths.
They were the "West goths." The other half, the Ostrogoths (East Goths) don't get nearly the press of the visigoths.

12. They want a severe beatdown from me.
Preferably with brass knucks.

When I get thru with them, they'll be wearing both black AND blue on the outside.

13. I like the bit
where goth chicks actually come to the gigs, and wear lacy and revealing outfits. Makes me want to start a goth band myself. (I think I can be just as morose as need be.)

There's a band in Boston I really like that identifies as goth, although more the Dead Can Dance type than the Cure or Bauhaus type. They're called Dreamchild, after this old movie about what happens when Alice (of Wonderland fame) grows up. It's a husband and wife team, he plays guitar, she plays bass and wire-strung harp, and they use looping devices and such to multiply themselves and make quite a lot of noise for two people. And even better, they have a fan base, and many of their fans are women about whom it may be said that baying at the moon would not be an inappropriate response.

20. OTHER:
they're really in denial. what they really like?

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
brown paper packages tied up with strings,
these are a few of my favorite things.

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels,
door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles.
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings.
these are a few of my favorite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes,
silver white winters that melt into springs,
these are a few of my favorite things.

When the dog bites, when the bee stings,
when I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
and then I don't feel so bad.

21. unfortunately the music's dead
which was the one saving grace of the scene. Their current music is deplorable. The once inspiring gothic/industrial/darkwave sound is now referred to as Electronic Body Music or EBM. Most of the "Bands" for lack of a better term, are just musically declined computer nerds hacking out the same shit over and over. Most of them on Metropolis label are completely identical sounding. The phrase "They all sound alike" gets thrown around a lot in music genres but it truly applies to them. It's as if they all bought the same Nord Modular synth and used the same presets to create the same uninspired bland lifeless boredom.

And as far as the people, well in my 15 or so years I was real hard pressed to meet one that wasn't a completely self absorbed pretentious bitch. They embrace the very shallow, decadent, comforming lifestyle they prented to be rebelling against.
