Asian Pears - anyone had one before
My local grocer was selling Asian Pears Buy1 get one free. Basically they're a pear but they're shaped like an Apple. They're dark redish-beige with light yellow freckles.

I've got one sitting on my desk and I'm always scared when trying new foods that I'll end up hating it. Anyone here a fan of Asian Pears?

1. They're lovely. Tastes like a pear with the crunchiness of apples.

Very sweet and, when ripe, very juicy.

Edited to add: Especially good cold.

definitely a cross between an apple and a pear. They taste somewhere in the middle. Crunchy like an apple, with a similar texture, but tastier like a pear...

6. I tried it but I didn't like it. I think the pear was too old
I have another one at home I'll juice tonight with my Carrots & beets

5. They are wonderful
My former neighbor had a tree with asian pears on them. I was always shooing people away from his front yard during the summer time - they'd always try to help themselves.

It is just like a crisp pear- wonderfully sweet but crunchy.
