I AM SICK OF LANCE ARMSTRONG |
|
Lance, Lance, Lance, bla, bla, bla, everywhere in the newspapers and every damn channel on TV. Bike riders, oh, he's so great, bla, bla, bla. Thank God, he's out. Forget Rove, the DMV, the innocent man from Brazil being held down and shot, forget the damn Patriot Act and the medial/library/book snooping. Just glory and hail to the 'merican hero, Lance Armstrong.

1. Do you live in Austin? |
|
If not, then you know shit about Lance-worhsip. Trust me, it's 10 times worse here.
And, yet, even in the AUSTIN paper, there are stories about Rove and innocent Brazlian man...imagine that.

I live near Town Lake in Austin, and the bike riders are insane!! I have no problem at all with people riding their bikes, it's a great thing to do, but they constantly weave in and out of traffic and pull in front of cars. What a great way to get yourself killed! You may be good at riding that bike, but if your bike and my car get into a tussle, I'm pretty sure my car is going to win.

And yes, I do ride a bike, and yes I'm glad he overcame his problem, but he's not the only one who's had and overcome cancer. And no he won't fade away, he'll show up on a Wheaties Box, do ALL the TV talk shows, and would Cheryl Croak date him if he wasn't so famous? As a nation, we are so blind-sided by sports as if it were the only thing going on. He's white and blonde and he's from Texas. Don't think he'll be wearing flip flops to the White House and you can bet ole George will invite him, as a fellow Texan you know.

Give him a day.
I don't think anyone has forgot the other stuff to recognize him.

|
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 10:41 AM by Spider Jerusalem
I wouldn't dispute it IF he'd beaten Mercx's hour record in Mexico City; as it is, I'd say it's debatable...
And...five greatest athletes? Pele, Muhammad Ali, and Rod Laver are the only ones I think there'd be any general agreement on...any list like that is subjective, anyway...

|
Armstrong only contested the Tour de France. (Spain + Italy are "Tours", also, just not in France, you know)...and in total career victories, well...it's not even close...no comparison.
Even Armstrong has said that if Merckx only competed in the Tour de France, he'd probably still be racing today....

32. Yep, I know. I just wanted to put a finer point on your |
|
"Merckx won 11 tours".
Armstrong trained to win the TdF, and not necessrily the other "Grand Tours".
Merckx trained to race, and win, in damn near every event he entered.
Merckx was the greatest cyclist ever, but Lance was the greatest TdF rider.

26. he's done a lot to promote cycling in America |
|
He's made it much more popular here not to mention promoting alternative transportation to automobiles making him a good environmentalist.
Plus he's one of the best things to EVER come out of Texas. It's rumored he may run for Governor there too. Don't know how good he'd be, certainly better than * and the "Guhvonator" who's disgraced California.

I guess you're not a bike rider.
Lance is the one of the best of all time. And he's a good guy, too, by practically all accounts. He's just won the most prestigious bike race in the world 7 times in a row, a record. And he's retiring.
Be happy for the guy--he deserves it. This won't last forever.

How can he be serious about running for political office in TX when he wasted his TV face time after the Tour by not mentioning the Rove/Plame scandal, his opposition to the war in Iraq, or the burgeoning Bush budget deficits?

14. Hey, look, the man has done something unprecedented |
|
He has won what is arguably the toughest road bike competition for the seventh time in a row, and that is after beating testicular cancer. Yeah, it's a big deal. Why all this moaning and pissing, because he is American? Because you're jealous? What? Sorry, some of us can't do the whole doom and gloom political thing 24/7. In fact it is vital that any human has some diversion, elswise they would go nuts.
This man rightly deserves to be a sports hero. He has taken a sport that was banished to the netherlands of sports hell, and made it mainstream in this country. He has shattered wins, and exhibited class while doing so. I'm sorry that you can't join in on the enthusiasm, but too bad. The man deserves celebration and will get that due whether you like it or not.
But don't worry, with Lance retiring, you won't have to worry about that pesky sport of bike racing for awhile:eyes:

They say he is among 1% of the population that have the qualities he has. So genetically speaking he is gifted. Kind of a freak of nature.
