most irritating redundancy
For me it's "very unique." I also give honorable mention to the guy I heard on TV the other day -- he said "spherical ball."

Yours?

Some of the rednecks around here say that, I think because they pronounce "pen" as "pin" and everyone wonders why they want a pin to sign a check.

Take the football for example. But yeah I do get the point. for me it is "plus pire" which translates as more worst.

Non-spherical balls: US football, rugby ball, etc...those are ellipsoid and not spherical....

comes from the Latin spectare, or something like that, meaning "to look" or "to see."

30. Hot water heater
John
It doesn't heat hot water -- it heats cold water. And, Bertha, "very unique" is another one of my pet peeves, too. So are people who confuse "anxious" and "eager" (though that's not a redundancy). The two words are opposites.

33. "Very unique" doesn't have to be redundant:
Within a single class of things it is but between multiple classes it isn't.

Lets say you have a cell phone that inverts the numbers (as in a mirror). That would be unique.

Lets also say you have a clock that is in the shape of my portrait. That would also be unique.

However, it seems to me that the clock in the shape of my portrait is 'very unique' as far as unique things are concerned. Neither have equals but one seems to be 'more unique' (less likely to ever have an equal perhaps).

The only phrases I try to avoid are those that are intrinsically redundant due to one of the words being within the definition of the other such as: unmarried bachelor.

Edit: Amazingly I believe I was borderline redundant before editing, haha.
