My favorite Kubrick film. Completely faithful to the book. Great casting...from James Mason as Humbert Humbert to Sue Lyon as Lolita to Peter Sellers as Quilty.

I'm a huge Kubrick fan and even *I've* never seen it before.
Anyways, I voted for The Shining.

Cruise and Kidman have about as much chemistry together as peanut butter and rotting pickles!

I recognize most of the film stills, by the way -- Strangelove, Shining, 2001, Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket -- but not the last one.

I mean I love Dr. Strangelove, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket equally. In the end, however, I chose Full Metal Jacket because a R. Lee Emery. I just love the guy for some reason.

22. The pacing of "Eyes" is similar to "Barry Lyndon", but |
|
Nicole Kidman's Valium inspired delivery drags the film to a snail's pace. Cruise has always been the 'actor' who learns a new trick; e.g. bartending, NASCAR driving, flying a jet fighter, and then shows off. Acting? WAAAaaaaay down the list of tricks Tom has learned.

21. Very difficult choice |
|
but I went with A Clockwork Orange. Depending on the day of the week or any other changing circumstances I could have picked any of the titles listed except Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut. Strangelove and Full Metal Jacket are pretty much tied for second in my mind.

26. "2001 - A Space Odyssey" incomparable! A cultural event... |
|
as much as it was a movie. Its blend of real science, science fiction, mysticism, religion, and psychedelia was both perfectly in tune with the era and far ahead of its time. Kubrick's masterpiece, IMHO!

27. 2001, Paths of Glory, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, Spartacus - all great |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 02:46 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
Any single one of Kubrick's films, including the incredibly beatiful and masterfully directed Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut (minus Tom Cruise) would have made any director's career.
In Spartacus there's supposedly a few scenes where the Hollywood Freeway can be discerned in a lower corner, as some of it was shot on the lot at Universal Studios. This is supposedly only apparent on the theater reel but not in the narrowed TV-sized video copies. Even the legends make mistakes.
