My wife wants to get a motorcycle
And I am all for it.

Why should she not be allowed to enjoy herself at age 50?

I have been told by her that I should learn how to ride one, and I am going to do so.

We priced some and they are not at all expensive.

Might be a lot of fun.

Thank you DU Lounge for letting a some what newbie comment.

6. Absolutely wearing a helmut
my wife is an RN and was a USN corpsman.

She has seen to many people racked up because they did not ride safely.

She owned a bike while active duty.

3. Not good...

Motorcycles are incredibly dangerous. I wouldn't be as gung-ho about it as you are. Research some statistics, then ask your automotive insurance agent for his opinion on the matter and what statistics he has to back up that opinion.

4. Whatever you do,
Get a bike that is sized right. If your wife is 5'2" and all of one hundred and ten, don't go out and get her that 850 pound BMW touring edition. Same for you too. Good luck, and many miles of happy motoring.

7. Hope she gets one where she can sit back....
Those ones where you have to lean forward look so uncomfortable. (Those are motorcycles, right?)

Only motorcycle I've ever been on was a Harley. So I'm spoiled in that way I think, LOL.

9. I say let her do it, butr make sure she gets on the road
experience. It's ahrd at age 50 to remember just how bad a driver you really were. Not bad in capability, but bad in reactions to new, and never experienced situations.

My DIL got her own about a year ago. It's a beally nice looking bike! Bright yeoolw sports bike!

Well, she's dropped it 4 times already! All from inexperience! My son has refused to repaint it until she gets better. He said he doesn't want to have to keep repainting!

Tell her never to lose the butterflies. My BIL and his wife have been hospitalized twice due to accidents on his Harley. The first accident was because a car ran into them. The second was while they were riding with their club. They were second behind the leaders and a dog ran out in front of the leader. H skidded to a stop, and they didn't! 6 bike accident that required lifeflight.

If you are alert and just a bit afraid, it's a lot of fun!

13. With that bike all I would need is first gear.
I'm old enough not to be in that kind of hurry.

15. Hmph, give me a wide-tired low center of gravity Harley any day!
With extended controls so I can stretch my legs and lean back on a couple of... uh... soft cushions.

14. Just be careful...
people in cars have this tendency not to pay ANY attention to people on motorcycles.
