So I post this really good overview of the problems |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 07:02 PM by WCGreen
that are going on i the labor movement over on GD...
And I get this like Move along sonny, we are grander than you...
We know you post at the Lounge....
Stay at he little people table....
(on edit, i forgot to put what I wrote)
The Teamsters and the SEIU have been the organizing arm of Big Labor for years...
The SEIU has been fighting for a living wage for over a decade now and has gotten little help from the AFL-CIO even though Sweeney, the head of the AFL is from SEIU...
Look for the communication workers to also bolt...
There has been tension between the Trades, Painters, Plumbers and such, and the other so called non skilled labor unions for years....
I don't like talking about this but the simple fact is the apprentice programs in many cities control who gets to work in the trades and for the longest time, a certain trade would be dominated by a certain ethnicity, for instance here in Cleveland the Italians dominated the Laborers Union, and they would use the union as a way to consolidate power within their ethnic group...
Of course a lot of that has changed. But still, there is a lingering resentment among a sizable number of minorities that there are barriers to entry into the trades put up by white guys.....

2. admin may well to consider changing the 'handle' to: |
|
General Derision methinks from time to time
1. Contemptuous or jeering laughter; ridicule. A state of being derided: The proposal was held in derision by members of the board. 2. An object of ridicule; a laughingstock.
i post over there, doesn't bother me, but it is clear; i care less what they think of me while they are soooo busy being 'more liberal than thou'...some of it gets more silly than even the lounge, if you can believe that, while offering no resolution to the topics they 'entertain' whatsoever imo

They must be coming over to the lounge to scope out chicks

7. whole tracts over there remind me of a sign... |
|
...i seen in front of a church one day some time back:
People Are Like Concrete. All Mixed Up & Permanently Set
there may be no more important times than these in which we live to be seen as ready, willing & able to offer alternative solutions to static issues & problems. gd will not make that contribution if-while being so flat-footed while merely regurgitating, at the expense of 'we the people', what is plainly obvious again imo
:hi:
it is better to be 'the river' than 'a' rock ~ but that's just me = what i think

9. I like that better to be the river than the rock.... |
|
In Empire Falls, one of the reoccurring themes was about controlling the river and how in the end m the river always wins.....

my superior poll http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=3721962&mesg_id=3721962over in GD, but then it occurred to me that the people in GD are utterly humorless and it would turn into a nasty flamewar with people accusing me of anti-southern/midwestern/western/rhode island bias, and nobody there would ever speak to me again.

They got all wierded out on a AFL-CIO connction to a Venezualian anti Chavez thing that was so arcane that if they talked like that to regular people, they eould explode...
BTW, take note, don't get all crazy and wonly out on the campaign trail..... You will loose them after about ten seconds.....

15. Oh yeah, you gotta keep things simple |
|
Typical boring Democrat stuff, you can put people to sleep. That's what made Clinton so brilliant, the man has a once in a generation mind, but he wasn't arcane or wonky at all. Nor was he crazy sounding. I'm blessed with the gift of humor. People like to listen to me once I get going. I'm hoping to work on that plus slide in some good common sense populist type stuff.

18. The only reason to go into GD anymore |
|
is to piss people off. The number of people there looking for actual discussion is so small as to be negligible.
