You have a son or daughter going to Iraq....
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 09:04 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Who is going to Iraq.

He or she doesn't want to go but everyone he or she knows is saying that it is his or her duty.

What ya' gonna say?

Do you pull out the video of F911?

Do you try to tell him or her what the act of killing will do to them?

Do you try to tell them that the war is bogus? For certain corporations?

Can you counter the $10,000.00+ BONUS? The College tuition?

Can you tell them they aren't ten feet tall and bullet proof?

Can you convince them that they do not live in a nation of whores?

Can you ever sleep again thinking you didn't do enough?

I pray for the parents, the sons, the daughters, the Iraqi victims...

I pray for the dead.

I pray for the dying.

I pray for my country.

We are all dying.

Slow or fast.

It's happening.

An old life passes.

To give birth to ..

Death.

It's a bad time for the world.

A new time for some.

An end nonetheless.

An end.

I'm not sad anymore.
I'm resigned.

Like a cow waiting for the sledge.
There's no use in kicking the stall.

I'm too fucking old.

1. sigh
this post makes me sad :( I live with a marine and see what the "killing" does to somebody. Good repost, as I would not have seen otherwise.

4. It broke me up writing it....
Because of America, the world is a dangerous and sad place today.

And America is that way because of the current administration.

*sigh*

Maybe not, but you have to try.

A young man who might someday be my son in law ships out in a month or two.

I warn him to be careful. What else can I do?

5. Nothing, Bro...
The mythology of the sanctity of war has been set.

It's up to people like you and me to change that.

The odds are against us.

3. I had kids knowing they'd likely be 4-F
and I'm glad. I don't know how I would talk them out of going to a war like this--and I am happy I will never have to try.

6. I have a daughter....
I doubt she will join and I can only pray the upcoming draft will not include women.

If it does, I'll move her to Canada.

7. I know what you mean...
My kids are lucky enough to have a rare myopathy that isn't fatal, has very little effect on their lives (or their dad's), and will keep them out of combat.

I deeply respect people who choose to be soldiers, but I'm selfish enough that I don't want my kids in war. (Go, Dawkins.)

9. I'm glad for them/you and your hubby,,,
During Nam. my number was twelve. I got out via transcendental meditation (I controlled my BP). If worse comes to worst, I'll be glad to teach/share the method I used (no drugs, but viable).
