2. wow -- i know how that feels... |
|
when my partner died, years ago now, i left his message on the answering machine -- i didn't get any phone calls for a few days -- and then there was one.
i was devastated -- it just goes like that.
sorry for your loss.

4. I had a friend who died on September 11 |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 08:59 AM by Modem Butterfly
He e-mailed me about what he thought was another car bomb. He wrote about how there was an annoucement to stay put, but people who'd been there "during the last one" said that if they didn't go now, they'd be stuck there for hours. He also said that he was going to try to use his medical training to see if he could help (he'd been an EMT at one point).
I got this e-mail days after 9/11, about the time we realized he hadn't survived. I think it was part of his company's disaster recovery efforts. After reading his e-mail, I just went to bed and stayed there for a couple of days.
My condolences on the loss of your father.

But, just from experience, you may cherish that one day. I lost a brother 8 years ago and I am afraid I forgot what his voice sounded like. I know this is still too fresh for you now, but save it b/c you may want to hear it again one day. I am sorry!

I lost my dad in November. My bd was 3 months before, just when he was beginning to fade. He managed to remember my birthday (my mom had always kept track and she died the year before) and was so proud that he did, since he was very depressed and disoriented most of the time. He left a deliberate and very Dad-like message on my answering machine. It is still there and I listen to it when I need it.
Best to you. m.

39. I'm sorry to learn about your father's death... |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 11:29 AM by KzooDem
I remember seeing your thread a while back when he was hospitalized in Dallas and you were planning to drive there to see him. I have been off and on DU this summer, so I didn't know how things turned out.
I know how you feel. I ran across a casette tape a few years ago that I had made back in 1990 when my five-year old niece was fighting a brain tumor. It was of her and I talking, and I made it because I thought that if she didn't make it, I'd want something to remember her voice by.
After she died, I put it away. I couldn't listen to it. I also didn't label it and when I was going through old tapes, I ran across it. When I heard her voice I just melted down. All can say is that while it never gets "easy" to deal with the loss of someone so central to your life, it does get easier over time.
