3. My daughter and I watched it together.
We're adding her pic to her bedroom wall, along w/ Sally Ride and Mae Jemison.
We hang up pics of women who have excelled in their fields (especially math and science) so that she can look over at them and realize that if one woman pulled it off then another one can too.

4. Rock on, Colonel
I wasn't aware, either and that's actually a good sign - that it's considered so normal we weren't hit over the head in the media with the fact that a *gasp* woman was in charge.

5. Eileen is great.
She's one of those people who makes everyone around her smarter, because her focus is so intense.

She's totally honest and easygoing too.

I had the pleasure of working with her on two previous missions. I believe she was the first NASA female CDR. She was well liked by everyone.

It's great to have a shuttle back on orbit.

6. Wow! I'm one-degree separated from Col. Collins
Very cool you know her. :wow:

I see in her bio that we almost share the same birthday - she's 3 days older than I. :)

14. No doubt!
With that history and resume, I'll bet he has some kick-ass stories to tell. What an awesome, intense face too.

13. Wow! That's really cool that you know her!
Plus that we have actual rocket scientists here at DU! (I had a friend who worked on the Hubble space telescope, and when he'd go out to the bars with us, and girls would ask him what he did, we'd all yell "Pat's a real rocket scientist!" -- I'm sure we totally busted his rap, but we thought we were being funny)

15. I'm not a Rocket Scientist.
I'm a TV Engineer.

But because of that, I got to work with a lot of the astronauts, from a PR kind of angle.

7. I watched the launch with my son this morning
I reminded him several times that it was a female commander. With 2 boys (3 if you count my husband :) ) things tend to be a bit male oriented around here. :silly:
