Stanley Kubrick would have been 77 today...
Born July 26, 1928 in NYC...I used to look forward to reading the movie section to see what was playing; nowadays it's Wedding Crashers, Fantastic Four, Bad News Bears, and coming soon The Dukes Of Hazzard, playing on 6 screens in your local multiplex...

Oh Stanley, why did you leave us?

1. Just think of the films he would have made based on this day and time.

2. One of the great ones.
In a film about Kubrick's movies, Jack Nicholson said (not sure of the exact quote) that every thing in a Kubrick film was conscious -

My personal favorites:
1) 2001
2) Dr. Strangelove
3) Paths of Glory
4) Barry Lyndon (yes, it really was a great movie)
5) Clockwork Orange

(I can't list Lolita - even though beautifully and unsentimentally filmed, it didn't capture the essence of the book. Having said that, I don't think any other director could have done a better job interpreting it.)
