Was I too mean to this Freeperesque/racist woman?
I saw a woman I used to work with several years back at a restaurant the other day, and it got me thinking if I was too mean to her at the time. At the time, she was a 19 year old single mom and I was working at this national chain restaurant as a host / server as a 2nd job while I was going through my divorce & just afterwards and I was like 30 or 31 at the time.

Anyways, on her first day on the job (I had been there a few months already...) she came up to me, the non-gay male host & waved her boobs in my face and basically demanded of me that she didn't want any blacks in her section.

The other guy, who is also white, but has black relatives, and I were incredulous, and she just walked away.

So, naturally, the two of us (and the other hosts, who were equally unhappy with her demand...) proceeded to seat people of color in her section whenever possible. We'd even call them "Amber Specials" after her name.

So, were we too mean to this single mom? Or, maybe was i too mean to her customers?

4. Her opinions affect customers- and should be brought to

the attention of management. You may not be able to change her ideas- but her ideas will (severely) limit where she will be able to work in the future.

10. well, she was fine with customers most of the time
at least as far as I could tell. The GM of the store ran a pretty tight ship and if she had gotten complaints, she would have been canned pretty quick

5. From once being a store Manager, I would have told the Boss..
...that "Amber" is quite possibly going to get the store Sued for a pile of money unless she changes her perspective on other Races...

6. It was mean for her black customers.
Because she more than likely didn't give them the service they deserved.

11. actually
she never really got a lot of complaints from any customers. she was a decent server, just had an attitude with her fellow staff & obviously with people that were not white.

7. I'm not sure.
If anything, weren't you kind of "using" the customers to get back at her? I mean do you think she really learned anything from having to wait on black people. It might have made her more intolerant and that wouldn't be good.

8. Oh my god if you did that to me I'd be soooo angry.
Sitting in her section would have irritated me, but I wouldn't have said anything because I'm nonconfrontational in those kinds of situations.

And then you would have me leaving a tip for her ass?

Ohhhhh nooo.

9. she probably should have been reported and fired.
in a service industry and not wanting to serve people?

In order to be nice to the customers, you would have had to end up doing what she wanted - since she most likely would have not given as good service to non-whites. So it was a no win situation.

That's why I would have said something to the manager.

12. We should have done that
since there were two of us there when she said it, so it was the word of two experienced employees versus her. But, if I remember, she was recommended by one of the managers there...who later left the restaurant.
