I seem to take inordinate joy in small things |
|
I just got a new trackball and removed the little green thingamajig that would've connected it to an older computer. It's small, it's green, it feels good in the palm of my hand. I like it. I'm going to keep it in my desk drawer and take it out & look at it from time to time.
I also like holding masses of dimes in my palm. I can't explain it. I just like the feel of it.
One of my favorite authors wrote, "Poor people have a great passion for large quantities of things." I also collect baseball hats and, it seems, stray cats. But stray cats aren't small....
Do you take inordinate joy in any any objects? Not talking about materialistic grabbing, or even about collecting. Just . . .

1. Not an object, but the smell of old paperback books thrills me. |

And bits of blue glass, either on the beach or in bottle form. I could stare at blue glass for hours, I love it so much.

The feel of the board and the little pieces. Card decks too.
Matchbox cars (esp. the made-in-England Superfast classics). I love to suspend the front wheels 45° or so and relase it to hear it bounce on a wooden table. Great suspension, those things had.

I'm learning how to knit them, and its very satisfying to watch one take shape. I'm getting into the whole process of knitting - it's a kind of physical mantra that is very relaxing.

Folk art turtles... any turtle stuff, really. Coins with women on them. Those little rubber inserts that keep things from skidding around... for some reason when they fall out, I love fiddling with them. Marbles. I could go on...

I like holding my kitties' paws. They don't like it much, but I do.
