Ever been to a drive-in movie?
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 05:27 PM by trof
Spend an evening swapping spit at the passion pit?
Awash in breath-taking teen-age hormonal surges?
So sure that this time you were really REALLY in love?
Ahhh...those were the days.

Sometimes you had this conversation:
"Wanna go to the drive-in?"
"What's showing?"
"Who cares?"

Did your heavy breathing ever fog all the windows over so bad you couldn't see the movie any more?
Which didn't matter because you weren't watching the movie anyway?
When he spotted your fogged windows, did the security guard ever knock on your window and tell you to sit up?
I was SO embarrassed.

When you were pretty sure you were just about to hit third base, and maybe even be able to steal home (Oh baby! I LOVE you SO much!), did your girl sit bolt upright and say "Would PUHLEEZE you get me some popcorn and a coke?"?
The teen equivalent of a time out.

Did you ever put 2 or 3 friends in the trunk and pay for a single ticket? We got caught.

Did you ever turn your headlights off and drive in the "out" road?
I did that successfully once.

Our high school football team captain and the head cheerleader got married when they were seniors. The wedding seemed to be a bit "rushed?". The baby came about 8 months later, but nobody was counting. ;-)
We figured they could have made a good case for child support/aiding-and-abetting against the Shades Mountain Drive-In.

1. Yeah, but only once as a teen.
Went with my first boyfriend to an Alien/The Fly double feature... parked backwards in his pickup and made out while watching... ah, good times. :)

2. Hell yeah!
Used to work next to a drive in as a teen and we used to walk in(sneak) after work. And we did the people in the trunk thing, making out, drinking beer, smoking pot, making out, oh wait, I said that. My oldest child can be attributed to the Oasis Drive in Theatre on Brady Street in Davenport,IA. Gawd, I miss those days.

8. We never heard of pot.
I don't think it had been invented yet, in the 50s.
At least not in Alabama;-)

17. I'm talkin' the 70's
early to mid 70's. Ah, the misspent days of our youth. I told my kids not to ever do this stuff though. Especially my daughter.

3. Why, just this summer I took my High School girlfriend to a drive in
accompanied by our 4 children. :sigh: It wasn't like the first time we went to the drive-in, I promise. :D

Other than my own.
My date was babysitting her little brother.
The concession stand had one of those electric ponies.
I gave hime 3 bucks worth of dimes.
We picked him up on the way out.

I think my first movie was at the drive-in.

My parents took us to see "The Godfather".

We were supposed to be sleeping in the back seat.

But I lovvved the drive-in.

13. parents used to take us when we were young.
As a teenager the nearest drive in (the one in town) actually showed porn. We couldn't get in so we would park on a nearby hill and turn on the radio to the correct station. That was a blast.

14. Ever drive off with the speaker still hooked on your window?
I did.
Ripped the electrical cord out of the speaker stand.
We turned it in at the ticket booth.
Later they attached them with steel cable, so you ripped your window out.

I used to spend a lot of time in Anchorage in my flying days.
I was a pilot with Nippon Cargo Airlines.
F Street Station was my favorite place.

18. I love drive-ins. When I was little all the girls would go
to the drive-in in their baby dolls (girl's pjs)and meet at the swings to show them off.

My boyfriend and I used to go in his van - enough said.

A few years ago there was a drive-in and motel for sale in VT. You could watch the movie from your motel window. I wanted to buy it but my husband wouldn't go for it.

I found it...The Fairlee Drive-in Theater/Motel

19. The drive ins, during the summer ,were the best.
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 06:07 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
My high school boyfriend had a restored Chevy Nomad, so we would back up, drop the tailgate, and enjoy. We didn't do "much" making out, because the movies at that time were so phenomenonal.

Examples: (as I give away my age)

Dog Day Afternoon

Blazing Saddles

The Longest Yard

Paper Moon

Godfather I and II

Shampoo

Young Frankenstein

Shaft

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

To name just a few that we saw at the drive in...several of these were during the winter, but we were in the SW part of the country, so snow was usually not an issue.

"Thunder Road" is the only one that comes to mind.
It was a long time ago.

26. The Shades Mountain Drive-In was mine.
South of Birmingham.
That area boomed in the 70s and 80s. Probably office buildings now.
Need to make a nostalgia road trip.
