Poll question: I live with my dad, am I a loser?
I just wanna know.... I am a 25 year old female on disability and I am currently on a waiting list for an apartment. My dad keeps bugging me about getting a job... I tell him "Not in Bush's economy."

Blah!!!

Dee

1. I have a Disability too, I just go to school now and am working
on getting totally healthy and getting the skills that I can get into the workforce again. I was 24 before I ever started college and regularly lived away from my parents. I lived off and on on my own before that, and, I had lots of personal responsibility within my family since the time I was 17 or so. But, you're fine. Just keep at it.

3. Not at all
Illness turns your life around, that's for sure. I have fibro too, and haven't been able to work for a couple of years, mine's pretty bad.

Family support is crucial. You're very lucky to have him there for you. Things will get better, it probably feels like you're in limbo, but things move at a slower pace for us.

Please, Dee, take the "my drawings are kind of sucky" off your sig line. They aren't sucky, they're wonderful!

14. Yes...
I also direct you to remove the "sucky" modifier from your caption. I enjoy your drawings and don't want to be insulted because of it... :)

4. Not a loser at all!
Never give up, but in *'s economy it is extremely hard to get anything even remotely worthwhile at all. :(

5. if you dont mind where you are, stay a while even if you work
Good way to save up some money. It helped me put a nice down payment on a home by staying at home.

6. You think YOU have it bad?!?
I've been diagnosed with OCB.

(now if I can find out what "OCB" means, I'll be >|< this closer to effective treatment)

I still live with my mom, and I'm 22, even though I'm still in college, and have a really lame part time job. Heck, my older sister lived with us until she was 30, she only moved out because she found her soul mate/husband.

11. Um, just because it's the "Bush economy" doesn't mean you can't TRY
to find a job. I mean, I had all of my teeth removed and still got a job as a dental hygienist, so it can't be that hard.

12. I'd say no...
I'd also say that thus far five poll respondents are twats who apparently can't read...(you'd think "disability" might be a tip-off, no?)

15. I am temporarily residing with my dad
as he is aging and I want to be near him (my mother passed away fourteen years ago), my only other sibling resides in NYC. I am also shopping around for a place of my own to buy as I am, and always have been, a very independent person. I work about an hour from home and have a condo near my job (only for the sake of convenience), but I feel that I need to be nearby to lend a hand when he needs one.

An example of why I want to be nearby: Several years ago when my father was 72 I dropped by his house and found him moving a sofa all by himself. He was in the process of putting it in the back of his pick-up to take it to our beach house. I said, "Dad! Call me and I will come help you." He responded with his "engineer-speak" about using the principles of leverage and using the weight of the sofa to his advantage; and, that I was over an hour away. My approach to such an endeavor would be to just lift the sofa and heft it into the truck and then back out.

As I was a rather rebellious teenager who gave him a difficult time back then, I want to make the most of what time we have remaining.

So, DW, I do not think you are lame.
