Domestic partner registry - victory or government keeping tabs on us?
http://www.planetout.com/pno/splash.html

In a decision described as a "landmark victory" for the GLBT movement, voters in Cleveland Heights voted overwhelmingly in favor of Issue 35, a measure establishing a domestic partner registry.

While domestic partner registries exist in more than 60 localities across the country, this is the first time a domestic partner registry -- or any other pro-gay measure -- has ever been adopted through a ballot initiative.

Given the Bushco* admin and the whole wretched anti-social neo-con movement, I'll remain actively silent for now. I don't need Big Brother bullying me. Though I'd guess they'd quickly figure it out if they looked at my purchasing history, available everytime you write a check or use a credit card. (that's freedom folks, no wonder terrorists hate it... )

1. I understand why you feel that way,
but I'm near Cleveland and I think it's a tremendous advance for gay rights. Then again, I'm not gay, so maybe those who are know something I don't.

Nevertheless, I was so hoping it would pass, so those vicious, hateful, subhuman howling repuke wingnuts who were so nasty in their campaign against it, would understand that we're tired of them and their ilk, and that the majority of people do NOT think the way they do. And God didn't strike Cleveland Heights down with lightning and fire the way they'd all predicted if it passed, either. Hope that shuts them up for awhile, at least.

2. It's hard to accept a good thing, huh?
I don't blame you, considering the sorry state of this country right now.

3. Depends.
If no benefits come as a direct result of signing up for the registry, I'd be leery of signing up. Especially given the political climate right now, I don't blame anyone for being suspicious.

However I don't see DP registries as a way for government to keep tabs on us anymore than I see marriage licenses as a way for government to keep tabs on straight couples.
