Who's seen the movie "Crash" and what did you think? |
|
I saw it last night and thought it was very good, but very disturbing. First of all, it shows many unpleasant situations, which was uncomfortable. But also it's very much about racism, and it has a way of making you laugh at racist comments which then makes you ashamed. It also really makes you think because you think you know how you would react to certain things but the way they are presented in the movie shows you that you might be wrong about yourself, and of course others.
I'm simplifying and being very vague so as not to give too much away for those who haven't seen it, but I'd be interested in hearing other opinions.

Really sappy and it promoted the same stereotypes it was supposed to be fighting.

3. Two black men in a nice white neighborhood... |
|
discussing (i.e. whining) about how white people treat them like criminals, then they precede to carjack a white couple.
The conclusion being that if black people are in a nice white neighborhood, they probably are criminals. And black people who complain about being mistreated in nice white neighborhoods are probably hypocrites.
That stood out, probably because it was an opening scene.
The part where they made the white rapist turn out to be the hero and a all around decent guy really stuck in my craw.

4. Took me a while to figure out who you meant by the white rapist... |
|
but I don't think they made him look like a hero exactly. I think the point was what kinds of things people do when they have power and when they don't, and how people have both good and bad in them (admittedly, that guy was a piece of $%^& but I have seen lots of police on that same type of power trip).
Thanks for your views.

He's white and he's a cop. So it takes a while for the viewer to realize he's a rapist, or they don't even realize it at all, apparently.

i have no instant good feelings about cops. It took me a while to realize who you meant because I didn't SEE the rape, and I was surprised when the victim said it because I didn't think that's what he'd done. But I do see your point.
