3. Always--
Maybe it's the "right tool for the job" mentality or something. It just doesn't taste the same with a fork.

6. You are SUCH a conformist
Next time you eat Chinese use a fork and next time you eat Italian use chopsticks.

BTW, the meaning of life...it is what you make it.

8. "Do not break his rice bowl."*
*Old Japanese saying.
Meaning: Do not do something that will negate an individual's way to survive.

It is well known that metal utensils make break your rice bowl.
You could look it up.

11. Confucious says
the meaning of his name is Confuse Us meaning don't worry about it. You just might like eating with chopsticks. I've never mastered that utensil. I'm lucky my mother was able to teach me to use a fork. I like to use spoons for everything. I don't know why. I think I just like it. :D

12. It's damn near impossible to eat Chinese food without chopsticks.
It's big chunks of tender crisp veggies and meat. Not fork friendly, especially plastic forks. I'm great with chopsticks, lightening quick ... like the ninjaaaaaa.........

13. For me it is the fun factor.
When i was young and we went out to eat Chinese food it was just plain fun to use the chopsticks. Now most of the Chinese eateries in my area don't even put chopsticks on the table anymore you must request them. I always request them and use them. Funny though i am normally the only one in the place using them.

So like i mentioned, for me it's really more about nostalgia for the days of my youth.

16. Chinese food does not taste the same with a fork. Chopsticks
are required for optimum flavor and enjoyment.

See I do it too, even my Ramen noodle soup.

18. It's the proper way to eat Chinese food. And, really, it's the best way
to eat pretty much all foods, except those things that one needs the fork and knife for (cutting meat).

I eat with chopsticks almost all the time - pasta, salads, chinese and japanese foods, etc.

Chopsticks FUCKING ROCK!!

Forks, Knives, and spoons are for fuckin' losers.

20. there are 2 reasons that i use chopsticks with chinese food
1) my son looks at me as if i am totally a wimp if i do not

2) when i started cooking chinese i acquired all manner of correct cooking and serving ware - rice bowls, sauce dishes, silk placemats, sake cups, individual teapots, and several sets of beautiful ... chopsticks! it all looks so perfect when the table is set, and throwing flatware into the mix just takes away from the exquisite simplicity of the table.

i have learned to make the fried rice "clumpy" (for lack of a better word - even tho it sounds kind yuck) so that it can be et with chopsticks.

the meaning of life? it has something to do with good books, good friends, good wine, good music, and movies that star johnny depp.

I'm wondering if your question is why Westerners don't adopt eating with chopsticks with Italian or Greek foods.
