Are you poor? Are you happy?
I'm damned poor.
I'm damned near sweating to death in my dorm room.
But you know what?
I'm so damned happy to be alive.
Money doesn't make you happy...I really, really, really believe that.

2. I agree
My in-laws are loaded and they are absolutely miserable and their kids can't stand them. I'm not poor- I can pay all my bills on time and put money in the bank- and I am pretty happy!

5. Sometimes I have money. Sometimes I don't.
But, yes, I'm happy and for that I am grateful.

6. I'm poor and not too happy.
I have a health problem which will kill me and I have no insurance and I can't take the time off from work to under go the course of treatment even if I did have insurance.

17. Aw for the love of Mike,
in the wealthiest nation that ever existed on this earth, you are faced with this? That is the definition of obscene.

25. I'm very sorry, CV...
And sadly, I can relate.
Unfortunately, the only people who REALLY understand are people like us, who can barely afford any sort of life at all and are also hangin' by a thread... thus, the only people who can truly relate have little or nothing to offer someone in your position...
I wish I could help, I really do...
Good luck to you... and keep working the net; one never knows when help may arrive... and where there's life, there's ALWAYS hope...
At least, that's what I keep telling myself...

ps: Lovely eerie cat pic you have there...

7. I agree.
I'm not exactly poor, but I'm not exactly rich either. (I think that is a matter of perspective.)

If you're happy, you're doing better than most of America.

Oh, and drink lots of water. At least it's free!

8. Had a fairly decent lifestyle for about 15 year....
Then, the bottom dropped out....

I am border line poor, but I am also happy because I have come to realize what is important in life, that not everything is about things all the time....

12. I made 10K last year teaching borderline LD kids to
read in southern WV. Best job ever, AmeriCorps is worth it. My girl is phenomenial, future D.O... And....when a young GOP'er starts talking about the war and you tell him to sign up or shut up for what he believes in, and he asks you waht do you believe in...well I just did a year in WV teaching retarded kids to read, because I believe in childhood literacy.....how you like me now!....
I hate BC(UNH alum) but will be in boston on saturday with a bunch of lefty rugby players if you want to meet up( a little drunk but tink you are a foxy female), you're more than welcome. I used to live on the corner of com ave and Harvard...those were the days......God I miss Boston... My wife was worth the move, as much as it hurts....

14. I am happy for the next 23 hours
then as Damiel Quinn writes: "every morning we must shake off the hangover and forget about fun for eight or ten hours while we drag our quota of stones up the side of the pyramid."

Also, I am not sure about being alone. Am I happy about that? It could be worse, because people can really be annoying sometimes.

I think money would buy me freedom from a job I really do not care for. Maybe working for the DNC would do the same thing, since I tend to do that kind of "work" for free. Otherwise it feels like a waste of a life.

15. I was happy when I was poor, because I had Mrs R. to be
poor with me.

Prior to that, being poor as a kid, pretty happy as well.

Bux are good to have, but if you miss them when you don't have them, they're not your friend after all.

Good to hear things are working out for you. Keep up the good attitude, and you'll go far.

16. I've been through..
... times of lots of cash and little cash, and there really is no question - money will not make you happy.

Total lack of money might cause stress, but the conventional wisdom is correct in this case. You cannot buy happiness.

19. I am loaded.
I refuse to eat anything but caviar sandwiches washed down with champagne.
When my car ashtrays get full, I just buy a new car.
I don't do laundry...wear it, toss it, buy new from Saks Fifth Ave.
Will only sit on 24 Karat gold toilet seats (is there any other kind?).
Bill Gates does my income taxes.

and then I wake up...

20. I am fucking broke
I just spent $4000 (that I didn't really have) on application fees for the glorious honor to spend another $200,000 over the next five years. Hopefully I'll have one of those moments with a patient soon that reminds me why I'm living like crap right now.

21. I'm in debt though not as much as many others I know, surprisingly...
I'm more or less happy at the moment...

Would be happier if I never used the damn cards in the first place but I am intelligent, am employable, will work on my public speaking skills, and get something better.

I know a way out if things become impossible. Death is but a door.

But I am happy to be alive.

24. Yes! And NO!... wait, what was the question again?
I'm so poor I can't even afford to pay attention...
(I know, OLD joke...)
But it's pretty true; it was a helluva lot easier when I was a young thing; it gets tougher as ya go...
But enjoy it while you can! Money ISN'T everything; it's just some stupid green stuff necessary to have anything even APPROACHING a life.
