Darr Williams cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Highway Patrolman"....
Dark haunting and much more poignant when sung by a woman....

Dar is fantastic.
Yo La Tengo - Little Honda. Defines sardonic, yet remains a nice Beach Boyish ditty.

as fully realized by Jason and the Scorchers; Bob Dylan WISHES he could have done it so dynamically.

6. "Andalucia"- Yo La Tengo |
|
More haunting tha Cale's original.
"Hurt"- Johnny Cash: Made it his own.
"Gin And Juice"- The Gourds: my second favorite band owns this song now.
"Shanendoah"- Cowboy Nation: A million versions, but I love this one the best.
Just off the top of my head..

Also, David Byrnes version of Don't Fence Me In on the Cole Porter aids album from the early 90's..
BTW, I almost have a full piece for the blog. One more day and it will be done...

I could go on all night about how great they are, and they are great guys, too. Have you heard their live version (w/ Sally Timms) of "Fairytale Of New York"? Jimmy Smith sounds more like Shane McGowan than Shane does on it!

"Lucifer Sam"- True West: Grinding, dark, psychedelic music.
"Eight Miles High"- Husker Du: So shoot me; I played the shit out of this version when it came out, and it's probably the most primal song I've ever heard.
""I'll Be Your Mirror"- Rainy Day: Susanna Hoffs' voice is the picture of adorable on this version; even though I was never a big Bangles fan, everytime I hear this I fall in love w/ her.

I even hung out w/ Jane Scott during the show, explaining who they were, and why they were the best band in the world at that time. This was right after "New Day Rising" came out, and it was an incredible show..

18. Unchained Melody. Bobby Hatfield did it better than Al Green. |
|
Also Goin Home by Donny Osmond. Way better than Ten Years After's version.
