1. I saw the Coliseum in Rome Italy yesterday... we walked in it, stood upon
it and were awed by it's presence in this day and age.

We have seen the Pantheon and the Apian Way as well.... and the ancient catacombs of San Sebastian. Just glorious. The Romans have made things that have lasted thousands of years, and modern man can't be bothered to make buildings that last for a week.

4. Tonight I am going to see an open aire performance
of Carmen by Georges Bizet. Since it is my favorite opera I am very excited and can't wait till it is 8pm. I hope it is going to be a good performance. Last time I saw the opera was in the arena in Verona (open air also) two years ago.

40. Do your homework.
Google is your friend. Get Do-it-Yourself books, videos, etc. Plan very carefully. Bathrooms, after I started on mine, I found out are the most difficult rehab a homeowner takes on. But it also contributes a lot to the value of your home.
Mine is an old house, and I'm constantly having to fix shit. I decided I'd replace it instead. I had water damage, old broken pipes, etc., and had to replace the entire first floor bathroom floor, toilet and sink, and decided to add a shower to the corner tub. New subfloor, cement backer board.
But to suit the house, kind of a Crafsman style bungalow, I installed 1 inch hexaganol tile. It was worth it. It cost about $3,500.

41. That's amazing! It sounds like it was a lot of work,
but for what you spent, it sounds like you have added fantastic value to your property.

Question: I would like to reconfigure our master bath, and this might necessitate moving the toilet and shower from where they are now. Is this a HUGE headache? To move plumbing? This bathroom is located on the 2nd floor...

44. The second floor is harder than the first.
I'm thinking about the same thing because the roof slope is on the shower side and the loo is on the opposite side. And it depends on the access you have to the drains and supply lines. If they run through a wall, you're working on two floors. And you will have to build a new floor, and a shower pan.

46. did you kinda teach yourself all about how to do this by reading
books and stuff? Did you take any courses or anything?

I am thinking our drains are in the flooring, but I haven't ripped up anything in the Master Bath, as we are still using it, and not ready to begin any major renovations just yet.

Have you tried using Punch! Home Design Software? I have a copy of it, and have friends that used it to design their new home and loved it. However, I find the instructions difficult to interpret and use. If I could figure it out, it does fantastic stuff: like you being able to re-design anything, and see it in 3-D, etc... Pretty cool, but the manual is quite long, and ours is all in PDF form. Yick.

24. Okay I made up the recipe
from another recipe and I don't have a digital camera. PLease don't beat me! Please!

The recipe, as far as i can remember, all in freaking English measure: sorry no metric!:

Cut 2 sticks cold, unsalted butter into 3 and a half cups flour mixed with One tablespoon plus one and a fourth teaspoon baking powder. Really grind it in (cutting up the butter into small bits first makes it easier). Mix in one and a fourth cup golden raisins.

In a bowl, crack three eggs and add 3/8 cup buttermilk and 3/8 cup heavy cream. Mix that, then add to dry mixture just until wet. It will have streaks of flour through it.

*Secret to good scones and biscuits: don't handle the dough too much*

Turn out onto lightly floured board, knead three or four times, cut in half, make two 4" circles, Quarter those, brush with well-beaten mix of one egg white and a tablespoon of milk and bake at 375 degrees F. until done 10 - 15 minutes.

Whew! If I missed anything I'll get back to you, but that's the best i remember it.

This is what they look like, except a bit more brown because I like them golden :)

Hey, I made a batch with Craisins ( dried cranberries) but dried currants are always nice in scones, too. or chocolate chips? Would that be scone blaspheme?

62. Why would chocolate chips be scone blaspheme?
sounds good to me. And I am not British, so I am allowed to put in the scones whatever I want :D

I like American recipes, so I thought it would be easier with the American measures than to switch everything in gramm and mililiter. And 1 cup flour is not the same as 1 cup milk.

63. You must be a chef
of some sort. A lot of folks don't know the dif between liquid and dry measure - I didn't know when I started cooking - but once you figure it out it makes a huge difference.

I rarely measure anything any more. Unless I'm making pastries, because they are delicate and prissy and fall apart if you don't pamper them. And you are so right about the Scone Police. They only arrest you if you're British and you commit heresy with a scone.

*Sigh* The sun's rising on the mountain. Gotta head to another part of it to work. have a fab day:hi:

73. Okay, corrections:
My memory isn't TOO bad, i guess, but you will need to add 1/2 tsp salt and reduce the baking powder to one tablespoon plus 3/4 teaspoon.

Hope that helps! You can also use heavy cream OR buttermilk ( 3/4 Cup total) instead of the combo if you want to buy fewer ingredients. ;)

19. A good friend of mine sent me an e-mail
I haven't heard from her for a few months and haven't seen her in about 4 years. We used to go to college in Seattle together and were good friends, we went out once, but mainly it was nothing big. We always have gotten along and cared for each other a lot though. She's really a beautiful little woman. Anyway, a few years ago, she and her boyfriend were in a car wreck and nearly died. She was in a coma for months and lost a lot of her memory and had to undergo extensive therapy to get back many of her motor skills. Well, one of the few people she remembered when she came out of her coma was me. Literally most of her life was erased, except she remembered me and all the close people in her life. Well, anyway, we've been in touch for a while and I hadn't heard from her in a bit, so I shot her an e-mail and she got back to me today. I was really happy to hear from her. So that's it. Hope you all liked my tale. :)

I took 2 negs from 1989 (I'm guessing it's ISO 400 slide film), scanned them with my dedicated (not a cheap flatbed) scanner, restored them, hand-touched scratches, reduced grain w/out affecting the sharpness, and made cool 8x11" enlargements.

The ink and paper are rated for 80 years so she'll have to ask me for another copy when she turns, oh, 140... :D

She didn't have the neg for an old pic of us from 1973 (with me as a tot) but I fixed some nasty blotches on an old 5x7"...

54. Do you remember Titchs bakery down by the hospital....
They use to make the best glazed donuts.....

.07 cents....

And the Lawsons up on Madison and Waterbury....

When it would get so hot you went in there just to lean over the ice cream cooler....

60. I, a 43 year old, street raced a 20 year old
Not safe I KNOW but a funny story I thought :)

Tonight I decided to kick around my truck a little, 1200 miles now.

In Gurnee ill. There are always teens and young adults out around Gurnee mills mall, so I decided to head that way and show off a little. I came upon McDonalds and sure enough the lot was half full of civics, supras, eclipse etc. Pulled into the drive through and grabbed a snack, as I creep in the lane I can hear; "XTREME!” "Is that a S10??" I got my food and see some guys motioning for me to pull in where they are parked. The guys start looking over the truck and we chat awhile, a little later we hear this car way down the ave. just winding it out. These guys knew who it was just from the sound; sure enough this green 97/98 civic pulls up. Now this guy must have been the center of attention of this group because he starts right in ragging on my truck.

He goes through all the; "left a cylinder at the dealer huh?” "The thing has no torque.", etc. etc. etc. One kid yells out; "try it!!" I just look over at the kid and say; "Red light dead stop?" He laughs and says; "sure POPS!"

We pull out and up to the first red light with all the other cars behind us; I never look at the kid and just get ready. On green I just punched it, the civic jumps right out in front, he is on his way to leaving me when I hear him MISS A SHIFT! I just blew by him and kept going to the next light; he is trying his best to hold on but never got back to my bumper.

He pulls up beside me about the time to cops roll out of a car dealership, yells at me that this did not count?? We all go back to Mickey Dees, and his friends start ragging on him, I tell him its all in good fun and I don’t want to risk a ticket doing it again. He was gracious and said he understood but invites me to another area Saturday night.

69. I had lustful thoughts about a taxpayer.
He came in to appeal his property taxes, and Boy Howdy, was he adorable. I went home and grabbed my husband after work. I did confess my lustful thoughts, and I think he's forgiven me...

72. A small thing
I was outside having a smoke and listening to Louis Armstrong singing It's A Wonderful World, and a tree frog jumped onto my chest and then crawled into my breast pocket and went to sleep. And I thought "Man, oh, man, Loois knew what he was talking about."

A small thing, but sometimes it's the small things that matter.

Khash.
