1. I think you're good to go
If it's a hot spot they won't charge you, at least I'm pretty sure, anyway..

2. The internet connection should be comped
As my days of being on TDY tell me

If not, find a better hotel

3. Some charge, some don't, that should be easy to find in advance
I stay at Hampton Inns a lot. They give you a code when you check in, you enter that code into the web page that pops up when you open your browser, and you're on. Some chains don't even have an access code.

I've checked into hotels that didn't advertise wireless, but that I could still pick it up. Just open your laptop, see what happens.

One thing: wouldn't hurt to buy one of those retractable network cables. Usually there's a plug on the phone or on the desk where you can plug the cable in. I've had wireless networks go down in hotels, but I could still connect through their cable hookup. And some have high speed only through cable.

4. I am going to set it up in my apt. and it works
Had some one bring in their wireless lap top and it had no trouble. My trouble is the cable has not the power it should have. Building fault and would need a new cable put in as it is so un-sure on power. Easier to just go with wireless. Love the PC but hate the work to keep it running.
