Poll question: Name the DU Band II: The poll |
|
Took some suggestions yesterday. Most of those are reflected below, rearranged a little here and there. With the kind of talent we have around here, we could probably put together a real band, too. Whatchasay?
Note: Apparently "houseband" isn't really a single word, but I think it's easier to understand what I mean with it spelled this way.

1. I don't care about the name. I want to produce the recordings! |
|
Ribbon and tube condenser mics, two-inch analog tape at 15 ips (30 is good, but the bass response is diminished slightly), Neve mixing desk, as much vacuum tube (valve) equipment as possible, recording as many parts at the same time as can be managed and the final mix run through a stereo tube compressor/limiter. (Fast attack/medium release, 2-5 db gain reduction at a 4:1 ratio maximum.)
Of course, everything ultimately winds up in the digital realm on CD, but it's old school the rest of the way. It will jump out of yer speakers the way Beatle records did all those years ago.
Speaking of whom, Sir George Martin reminds us all that "no amount of technology will fix a bad performance."

3. Produce an imaginary band with a fictitious name? I could get behind that! |
|
There's actually another producer on DU somewheres. It's somebody who goes by only their first name, but I can't remember it. Might be johnnie, but I don't think so. I can look it up if you're interested.

4. Should have said Gitmo Houseband, but it's too late to edit |
|
Then again, the way this is going over, I should have just said Led Zeppelin.(cue rimshot)

14. Other: "Security Device Enclosed" |
|
I think it would be cool to have a band called "Security Device Enclosed."
Our name would be on every single album in the entire store.

15. Aw, that's too good to use for a fictitious band; somebody ought to use it |
|
in real life. (Also, it looks like elad has run away with this thing.)
