That $%#&**@ cat of mine learned how to open the screen door!

Coleman, the little runt you see below, somehow managed to learn how to open the sliding screen patio door. I saw him pacing around the patio from the other room. I wish Cathyclysmic was here to see it. He is becoming dangerous.

1. My kitties do the same thing
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 09:01 AM by skeeterintexas
Both of my cats open the patio screen to go outside. I just wish I could teach them to close it behind them.

15. Mine too
She can open, but not close. If the screen is very securely latched, she can't get it open and she gets so frustrated.

2. They always seem to learn those kind of things
They don't learn how to clean their litter boxes or how to go out in the middle of the night to buy themselves food. They could at least learn how to cook a pot roast while we are away so when we come home we have a hot dinner. Or maybe learn to how to run a home brewery at least. But no, they just learn how to be a pain in the ass.

3. ours opens up the shades
We have those floor-to-ceililng plastic slat-style shades, and our cat will actually tug at each cord when they're closed until he gets the right one. He usually does it at night so he can see into the woods behind our apartment.

4. The day cats evolve and get opposeable thumbs, we're doomed.

5. Mine spends hours on the bed, working at the doorknob
She KNOWS it's the way out, but can't figure out how to get traction on the slippery metal. Frustrates the hell out of her. But she knows if she does it long enough, the annoying noise will wake one of us, and we'll open the door.

If they had opposable thumbs, they would still need us - we are willing to work for cat food money and go shopping for cat food and clean their litterboxers while they nap. Why would they want to screw up a good deal?

8. They already rule the world - it's like the haiku says
My brain: walnut-sized.
Yours: largest among primates.
Yet, who leaves for work?

When we pull up to the house, my SO will say (in the falsetto voice he uses to "be" the cat) "I don't remember giving the servants the evening off!"

6. One of my cats learned to open the bedroom door
It had a window that was always open and she could get outside through it. So evidently she just jumped at the doorknob over and over til she got it to turn and pushed her way in. Everyday I would come home from work and she would be sitting outside on the sidewalk. The inevitable happened; some crazy old lady in the neighborhood stole her.

At least Coleman is considerate in his escaping. You have to think positive Mr B!

She also killed a bunny rabit accidentally while playing. You should have called her Lenny. :)

12. My cat Spartacus, was able to open doors
He used to hate when anyone dared to close a door to him. He made it his mission to be able to open all those doors. It became vitally important to lock the bathroom once he mastered that task. ;-)
