My Theory: Reality TV is responsible for Republicans being in Power. |
|
Think about it. It gained popularity in the summer of 2000 with the premiere of "Survivor" and "Big Brother". We all know what happened that fall. It contributes to the dumbing-down of Americans.
Last Fall, more people were interested in "The Apprentice" than the Election issues. It was infuriating to me.
So, in short...Reality TV is a Republican conspiracy to keep the sheeple paying attention to everything that does not matter. Just keep them distracted so they do not pay attention to the Clusterfuck going on in this country.
(I am only half joking)

1. My Theory - Fear Factor numbs us all to the outrage of torture |
|
Fear isn't usually the obstacle but rather how many gross things one can eat, how long can you stay in a box, underwater, etc. I can't watch that show and not think of the AG pictures.

People who go on those shows are whores. People who watch those shows are even bigger whores. Its modern day slavery really.
You could say the same thing about those talking head "news" shows. On any given day they will dominate GD. "Did you see what so-and-so said on Meet the Press" Well, no
I'll say it again: the remote control and drive thru food are destroying our culture

send A-list rasslers to the Repuke convention in 2000, and the B(or C) list rasslers (jabronies like Doink the Clown) to the Dem convention?

10. Reality TV deserves a special place in hell |

For a variety of reasons. If I may indulge in a rant:
It's killing creativity on television. Why hire writers and spend money producing good comedies or dramas when we can just get a bunch of "regular" people to eat bugs for an hour?
As for the reasons you mentioned, I tend to agree. If only Bush and Kerry could have made the final cut on American Idol people might have had some interest in what was going on. Hell, we could have seen Ryan Seacrest utter the words: Bush made big gains singing Proud to be an American last week, but will it stand up to Kerry's rendition of Born In the USA? Only you can decide!
My fellow citizens, I beg you: Stop signing release forms! If a person stops you on the street and asks you do perform a crazy dance for a dollar, SAY NO! Getting yourself "on the tee vee" should not necessarily be everyone's American Dream, ok? I'm sure you're all very nice people, but I don't need to see you performing stunts in prime time. That's what Circus of the Stars was for. I don't want to see "Joe Dipshit Buys A Dinette Set," shows about the "drama" involved cleaning your musty basement up, or people whose deepest thought to date was "should I go with spaghetti straps or not" pick out some meathead to go out with.
When I turn on my tv I want to see cop shows, doctor shows, lawyer shows, groups of young people coming to terms with something, sit-coms with absurd and wacky situations, and Tim Russert's big fat head on Sunday.
Pretending that eating bugs and marrying millionaires is reality will not, in fact, make that reality.
Phew. Thanks. I needed to get that out of my brain.

It's illustrative of the win/lose:black/white dichotomies that Republicans and their sheeple adhere to.
