Strange to come up here and see the finger/thumb poll and other finger threads.
Just 30 minutes ago, I was goofing around and started wondering what the physiological reason was behind something.
How come, if I hold my hand above a surface and arch my fingers and thumb down so that the tips are in contact with the surface, I can easily raise every finger (and the thumb) vertically, except for the ring finger?

1. because the tendons are attached differently |
|
they connect more directly with the middle finger - making it impossible to raise that one alone.

2. it has to do with the tendons in your hand |
|
the same goes for your foot, it's damn near impossible (unless you have some freakish gift) to raise the middle 3 toes independently
