My SO already has a pair of ropers, and I own NOTHING that would be appropriate for riding a horse (which I haven't done since the mid-1980s). My usual high-heeled summer sandel would NOT cut it, and the websites specifically say NO SNEAKERS.

I was in Dallas, working literally next door to two boot stores, so I figured "where better?" and bought me some.

Not that I have anything against cowboys or boots, it's just that, as someone who wouldn't even wear shoes if I could get away with it, I've always found cowboy boots to be one of the most uncomfortable things humans ever invented.

I am delivering his quotes on birth control to every single house in my (largely Catholic) area. They might be against abortion, but the size of their families (rarely more than 2 kids) tells me they wouldn't take too kindly to a new baby in the family every year or two.

They had some very cute women's styles at "Boot Town" in Farmer's Branch, TX, but my foot size (I'm 5'11") mandated a guy's boot, sad to say, so my selection was limited.

Was working in an office building next door, had 1/2 hour to spare before I was due at the airport, and figured "where better to buy boots for my trip then in TEXAS?"

They were the nicest people! A young kid with hipster eyeglasses helped me with my selection. I looked at the VERY urban glasses (small black rectangles don't look real cowpokey to me, but what do I know) and asked him if he himself rode -- boy, was he insulted! Of course he rode!!! He proceeded to take the time to make sure I got a perfect fit, I packed them right in my suitcase, and flew back to the land where Boot Stores are not commonplace.

But who knows - I'm wearing a cowboy hat on last year's Christmas card (in a photo of us at the Grand Canyon) so stranger things have happened.

I figured why buy boots in New Jersey (the only place I know of with a decent selection is in Deptford, NJ) when I'm right there in Cowboy Country!

It's kind of suede-y looking, but it was good looking, basic, and on sale.

Saw some cute one made of ostrich, but WAY out of my price range, plus I couldn't rationalize that the leather would be available anyway as a byproduct of beef.
