Queens Zoo - any good?
I've never been there, and I'm not big into zoos, but a friend of my wife has free tickets this weekend to the Queens Zoo. I've never heard of this one, thinking that only the Bronx had a zoo in NYC. Is it worth it to go down there? It's maybe a 2 1/2 drive for us from the Hartford, CT area and we have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. I figured she might like it, and the friend of my wife also has a daughter around the same age.

1. There's also a zoo in Central Park if I'm not mistaken.
The Bronx Zoo is by far the best of the three to my knowledge from what I've been told it rivals the San Diego Zoo in terms of size and fun. :)

4. The Children's Zoo in Central Park
It's small, but it's great for the very low price and a nice afternoon. My oldest nephew really liked it when he came to visit me in NYC.

2. I wouldn't make the drive just for the zoo
I grew up in Queens and though I'm sure it's improved since, the zoo was always pretty sad when I went there. There are a million things to do in Queens, though. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

3. we go to Flushing all the time
Well, maybe not all the time, but at least 7-8 times this year we go to Chinatown on Main St.

5. Then I'd suggest making a whole-day trip of it
Unless they've really expanded the zoo, it won't be more than a few hours, especially with a 2-1/2 yr old (that's my child's age, too :-) ) But IIRC the zoo is in Flushing Meadows, so there's plenty of park space to wander and have picnics in.

6. GO... the tickets are free, and there are a million things to do in the
City! If I could, I'd go back just for some decent food!!!!

At 2 1/2, your daughter will love it, even if you find it kind of odd...:D

7. it's a long day for me, though
5 hours or so of driving back & forth and chasing after a rambuctious 29 month old... but, we'll probably give it a whirl.
