In your honest opinion, Freepers are..... what?
I read Free Republic once in a while. I have read some real bull crap, but then again, I've read some real bull crap here as well. On the obverse, I've read some real pearls from here- and from there.

It seems that folks here have a very low opinion of Freepers, and I'm assuming the same is true for DU'ers over there.

Personally, I find the schism between the political parties fairly fascinating. I'm wondering if you'll give me your "no B.S." appraisal of the Freep mentality and general human fitness.

Neandethal?

Worthy opponent?

Knuckle-dragger?

Twisted and evil?

Good but misguided?

Can you some up your thoughts in a sentence or less? Just looking for a quick sketch, not a finished masterpiece.

17. Nah...
Usually way too clumsy to be actually sneaky. They just think/i] they're clever. Being 'sneaky' in a transparently clumsy manner is a fairly classic symptom of extreme arrogance, too, and that's an attribute that typifies that sort quite well.

9. Agree...brainwashed. I trolll FR from time to time and it's always
the same thing - Clinton, Hillary, Commies, Traitors etc.

From what I can gather, these people get ALL their news from Fox and any RW site. That's it. Why? Bec, it affirms what they want to believe.

That's what I LOVE about Liberal...we talk FACTS. Freepers are just an ideology.

No party is morally superior, but the Freepers think that they corner the market on morality. Of course, when faced w/ hypocrite Rush Limbaugh, they kinda have to face the facts. But do they? No. They start out by saying "Oh, that article was the Enquirer, how reputable is that?" Then they hear it on mainstream news. So, they switch tack, and cling, absolutely cling to what Rush said..."prescription drugs"...like doctors were prescribing too much medication for poor Rush. It's amazing...Rush is a drug addict, plain and simple.

I guess it's difficult for any Freeper to admit that the hero that they get all their bogus information from is a drug addict.

Cognitive dissonance.

4. I guess....
Here is my take on Freepers:

Freepers, although they do raise some legitamate points sometimes, firmly feel that they are right a 100 % of the time. I do not approve of that mentality.

It is not healthy to reject discourse.

They're the product of a decades-old media/political campaign that keeps people scared and vulnerable. That's all. Fear brings out the worst in humanity.

10. One of the following: Greedy, Stupid, Spiritually Vapid
Or any combination of the above. I can't remember ever knowing one who was not either greedy, stupid, or Spiritually Vapid. The worst Freepers have all 3 traits: eg: Pat Robertson, George Bush*, Fred Barnes, Toby Kieth.

15. what really gets me about freepers is..
We all know that the majority of them aren't rich, and aren't CEOs, which pretty much invalidates 90% of their whole ideology. I'm suprised a poor republican doesn't explode from the hipocrosy and contradiction of their very existence.

18. There are two kinds of FReepers
There are those who are brainwashed and don't really know what is going on, and then there are those who know what is going on and love it.

But they find unity on one issue: selfishness. Most of that is a very Republican trait. Their vanity and pride comes from being "right", and they feed their egos by congratulating themselves on how right they are. Their comfort is more important to them than anything else, which is why they are willing to not give a shit about why we went to war (who cares, we are winning, right?). Human life is meaningless if they have a point to prove.

20. Like anyone else, more or less... but probably less thoughtful than DUers
...on average.

Take almost any group, even a self-selected one (as long as it's not the klan or something,) and you'll find a distribution. Some members will be good people who you wouldn't mind having a beer with, some you'd like to punch in the face once in a while. True of DU, true of FR too.

But when comparing any group of liberals with any other group of conservatives, I really believe that a few general tendencies are obvious.

Here's just one -- I think our side has a need to make sense of things while their side, believing themselves to posess the Truth about Everything, doesn't see any reason to think things through quite so thoroughly. Look at one of the early responses to 9/11 -- they immediately assumed that people like us were naively trying to understand the terrorists when the proper response, to the freeper mind, was to kill the 'ragheads'. And any middle-easterner and most other Asians were the Evil Enemy.

To our mind, why wouldn't someone wonder why a bunch of guys would kill thousands of innocents? Isn't that the first step in trying to come up with a proper response that doesn't make things worse? Isn't that a *necessary* step, so that we don't turn into a bunch of Sikh-murdering vigilantes? I doubt if many on FR know what a Sikh is, or care to know that they're not even Moslem, refusing to see beyond a turban.

21. It would be an interesting experiment
...for one of us to go over there and start a thread "In your honest opinion, DUers are ... what?" and see what results. Compare it to our thread.

Sure, there's some name-calling in our discussion here. I can understand that, since some of those freepers evidently would like to see us dead. But there's plenty of off-the-cuff analysis, too. Like I said, we like to make sense of things.

On the hypothetical FR thread I would bet the only thing resembling "analysis" would be some regurgitated talking points from Hannity or O'Reilly or the drug abuser... and a lot more name calling than you'll see here, more vicious, too.

betio, I'm hoping you're a journalist or writer doing this exact experiment...
