Bush KNOWS that he's full of shit... That's the funny thing

Nobody in the administration actually BELIEVES any of the crap that they're pushing.

Everything that they do or say is just a ploy to either consolidate or increase power, cover up their mistakes and line the pockets of their cronies.

That's the Bush Administration in a nutshell.

What I can't understand is why so many common folks FALL for this total load of bullshit. A lot of them actually get UPSET when you show them the extremely obvious evidence. Just ask any of them to prove that there were WMD in Iraq.

What's even more incredulous are those Bush supporters that, one hand actually admit that Bush has committed high crimes and misdemeanors, but on the other hand endorse them as if it's some kind of badge of honor. It's crazy!

No wonder that the rest of the world thinks that this country has gone completely insane.

I agree with them.

1. My wife tells everyone I'm really cool
But I know I'm actually a bit boring (OK may not just a bit). Maybe it's like that.

2. People are conditioned to follow authority figures....
...it makes them feel safe. Couple that with the fact that Repugs have coopted the Christian God, thus giving them semi-devine approval, and its not hard to see why people blindly follow them.

6. The only really good thing about growing up in the military
is that I learned from a very early age that "authority figures" are full of crap.

Anyone in a position of authority has to earn my respect.

Many military brats also develop a "B.S." detector -- we can quickly peg a person. Probably because we move around so much that we have to almost instantaneously figure out who the bad guys are in a new school or neighborhood. For guys it's a good idea not to beat the crap out of the C.O.'s son (commanding officer's son) -- so we also have to determine the rank of the kid's father.

One of the personality types I saw frequently in the military is the officer who is a useless piece of crap -- but he has the rank and he misuses his authority. (My pronouns are male because when I was a military brat female officers were few and far between.)

Everything about bushie was a red light in terms of warning signals that he was borrowing authority and that he really doesn't have much natural authority. I remember the first time I saw him on T.V. -- thinking to myself -- and that is the little shit the GOP have found to run for Prez?

He came across as the C.O.'s son -- a son of someone -- it was in the way he walked-- his bearing -- everything about him. I believe that his followers are projecting onto him, their image of what they WANT him to be.

As for Kerry -- I got a lot of mixed messages from him. Sometimes he was an authority figure -- and at other times he seemed to be following a committee's orders.

General Clark is the real thing and Dean also was/is his own man.

4. Can't discount the...
... "true believer" effect. Some people live their whole lives looking to follow someone like Bush, and when they've found their icon, nothing short of a lobotomy will change their minds.

When this subject comes up, I always recommend Eric Hoffer's The True Believer. It's now almost sixty years old, but read it in the context of today, and it's a real eye-opener. To some, its prose is a bit ponderous and stiff, but the insights in it are extraordinary.

Cheers.

7. Thank you, punpirate.
I lost a good deal of my innocence, thanks to The True Believer. It's absolutely brilliant in its insights on the nature of mass movement. Thanks for reminding me to read it again.
