Should I go to Idaho?
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 01:28 AM by jiacinto
Would I be happy there? Are there jobs there?

It seems like I would not be attacked there.

Well Apartments.com shows cheap rents.

1. That depends on how much you like dealing with freepers.
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 01:22 AM by liberal_veteran
Idaho produces almost as many freepers as potatoes. I know some good people in Idaho, but the majority of them are fairly conservative, especially in the panhandle.

And no, there aren't a whole lot of jobs there.

3. Are you a minority there?
It once was a stronghold for the Aryan nation compound. However, not all Idahoians subscribe to that viewpoint.

And it is not a Democratic state, that's for sure.

There's a joke that you can hold a meeting of the Democrats in Idaho in a phone booth.

5. Ha!
White supremacist capital of the world. But what a beautiful, repressive Mountain state it is.

Go further West, young man. I'd suggest my town - Portland. Safe and progressive. But if you think unemployment is bad where you live...

6. I've heard nice things about Boise
Edited on Fri Nov-07-03 01:27 AM by eileen_d
Boise's got some large firms so employment might be possible there.

I live in Montana myself, and have passed through different parts of ID several times -- never spent lots of "quality time" there though. Don't know what your preferences are, but of course there are several conservative enclaves, ranging from Mormons in the southeast to some real racist wackos in the panhandle. But honestly, every state has got its own hardcore rightwing areas.

If you like the outdoors, you will definitely be happy. Unfortunately I've never made it to the Sun Valley area, but every drive I've made through the state (except in the extreme east) has been very scenic.

Sorry this is all anecdotal... guess I just felt chatty.

Edit: just read the other posts. Yes, Idaho has freepers, but don't knock the whole state or (goddess forbid) the entire Mountain West, else I'll pick Idaho up BY the panhandle and whack you in the ass with it. ;)

11. I like Idaho.
But jobs are hard to come by except in the south. The south is full of religious types like Mormons. It's desertlike and not very scenic. The lake area in the north is beautiful, but harsh to survive in without money to back you up. It's also a lot of wilderness.

Did you bother to even write back?

By the way, I have been to Idaho...I have never seen so many white people in my entire life.

There are rednecks there that will eat you for lunch. You will MISS the crime in Miami when you see what goes on there.

20. That's one point you can't argue
I rent a one-bedroom house on a nice street for $450 here in Big Sky Country. Of course there are downsides, one thing I do miss is access to more diverse entertainment. Our movie theaters truly suck. Having grown up here, I've learned to ignore Republicans (or argue with them on special occasions).

You ask "what was the job?"

Pardon me, Carlos, you are NOT going to believe this...but, keeping up with my work, my school, a new husband...my family, my new family...Gee...I can't remember YOUR shit.

Somehow...I thought you might have done that on your own.

Dude, you don't need to move...you need to find some parents to adopt you.

22. Then by all means
You should definetly pack up the Honda SUV, and head west.

You MIGHT want to hurry up...the snow is already on the passes that you need to drive over to get there.

I personally suggest that you take the Southern route, then head North on I-5 through California...take a right in Oregon, and go through the Columbia River gorge.

Dress warmly.

33. Five or Six, I'd say
I'd take I-40 and cut up to I-15 from Kingman

Nashville, Okla City, Albuquerque, Vegas, Salt Lake City, Boise

And those are 12 hour days.

The roads should be ok & if you have an SUV...

You'll save a day or two, rather than taking the 10/5/84 route.

15. Idaho is a stronghold of separatists, white supremists
and die-hard Republicans. There are some jobs to be found in the larger cities, but they're not many and there would be fierce competition from the locals for them.

I know there are some good folks in Idaho, I even know a few. That doesn't mean I'd move there or recommend it.

you have a one year lease. Several weeks ago, I suggested you break the lease and you said you couldn't. Now you can?

I think you're just obstinate, like to complain, and try to find the worst side of every situation.

Break the fucking lease. Close out your utilities from the road. GO! Explore! Trust your instincts. You obviously still have your courage, so use it.

There's nothing keeping you & nothing to lose.

37. YOu can be attacked anywhere at anytime
and while you might think Stephanie's (misinformedo1) posts were mean, she and her husband DID offer you safety.

If Michael has offered you to come stay with him, then you should take him up on it.

Think about it Carlos.

You have flamed BACK and forth with Steph, but in your moment of need, she and Michael offered their support to you.

Take it.

Be supportable.

I KNOW you fixate on these things and in a way once you get there, you cannot find your way back out, but you DO need to be supportable.

Making a FRIEND will be the best thing in the WORLD for you.

See that is the thing about a socialist like Jan Michael...he REALLY DOES believe in sharing. :D

PLEASE take them up on ther offer before they get frustrated and withdraw it.

All of DU is watching you fall apart when there IS support available.

Even those of us who have had SEVERE disagreements with you on other subjects are very concerned about your well being.

Please say YES to JM and BE SUPPORTABLE..there is NO reason to run off to Idaho when you can be with a friend (you'd have to actually MAKE friends with him) who wants you to feel safe.

39. Someone needs to sit you down like a dutch uncle, Carlos
For months - going back before your move, many people here, including me, have offered you advice, and you have chosen to ignore us all. Once you got to South Florida, you continued to igonore advice regarding your living situation and your employment problems. Many of us counseled you on obtaining new employment after you quit your job - you chose to ignore that too. Now, recently people have offered you wonderful solutions to your current situation to help you get back on your feet, (including several offers to house you) and you have not only chosen to ignore them, you have been rude about it. There are so many people out in the world Carlos who would jump at the many opportunties that have been offered - how sad you can't even recogonize that.

I have come to the conclusion, Carlos, that you prefer to whine and from that whinning, you enjoy the attention. This is very sad. You need to get professional help to help you mature so you can handle what life hands out.

Sorry for the rant, but you ask for it each time you post. It's now time for tough love.

It's one thing for people who HAVE some form of relationship to express their concern in a manner that may look like they are being harsh..it's quite another for insensitive assholes to come along and post this shit.

The thing I KNOW after being around here a while is sooner or later everyone needs some support and they regret their asshole posts they made when others needed it.

Have fun...BTW...the pot seems to be making you a bit unconscious.

43. I would come up with a better strategy than that
Unless you're looking for adventure, you can surely come up with a better strategy than moving cross country to an unfamiliar place with no job prospects based on cheap rent! The cost of of living is cheap in Alabama and Mississippi too and they're closer to Florida.

I was mugged once too. It really unsettled me for a long time. I suggest going "home" wherever it is that you have family and being in a safe, familiar environment for a while.

Best of luck.
