OMG I'm dying of chilli poisoning!!
I cooked a curry using these little chillis that my bengali aunt gave me. I should have known better, and way overestimated the amount I need. My mouth is on fire, and nothing seems to alleviate it!

7. Sugar helps
Try a coke, but one with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.

5. Water, bread or rice, citrus juice, milk. Repeat.
The old taste buds will calm down eventually. I know from personal experience that being a fire-breathing dragon isn't a glamorous as it sounds. Don't be surprised if everything tastes weird for a few days.

I wish I had a Bengali aunt!

8. Also try lots and lots of butter
Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 02:32 PM by Maestro
Spread it on bread and eat. If the chilies don't make you sick all these homemade cures will. ;)

11. You're not kidding!
There's no way I can try all of these things! ;)

The fire seems to have died down a bit now. The rest of the curry is very nice. Must have got a cluster of them in that one mouthful. Just like buses, they all come at once!

17. Onion and plain yoghurt

We are always served plain super hot green chillis with our meals on the side dish, so that we can add to the low level of spice in normal meals. Along with this we are served sliced raw onions and plain yoghurt, in case we overdo the hotness. (I never have!!)

However, nothing will stop the outcome in case the chilli acts on you - a burning bottom!! :-)

29. I've done that before
But I've found these things mellow considerably after sitting in the fridge for a day or two. I always add more chilis than tastes good when you sample dish while cooking it. But they calm down after time and add a nice warmth.
