1. Keeping with my general theme for the night...
of pissing people off.....

IT WILL SUCK!

Counterpoint? :P

j/k btw

Though I really am not getting my hopes up. I am still mad at Two Towers for Legolas' EXTREME! "shieldboarding" down the stairs. Why couldn't he have just ran and shot as he went... like in the book.

2. Maybe they'll be honest and
run a laugh-track whenever Gimli comes onto the screen.

While we're talking about the battle at Helm's Deep, a unit of light cavalry (the Rohirrin) charged a disciplined unit of armoured pikemen (the orcs). Does anyone have any problems with this concept? And don't bother pointing out that Gandalf used his magic, because no-one knew before the event he was going to do that, most particularly the horses.

3. Its because...
Orcs are dumb. LOL

Seriously, it's because they were feeling suicidal and it was just too far back to the cliffs of Rohan.

4. It's a movie
and they need to take liberties to entertain. The whole thing is a fiction. There's no such thing as Elves, Orcs or wizards. Positing that, Gandalf's magic can inspire those who follow him (see Nenya, Ring of Fire) and strike terror into his enemies. Nor were the pikemen in phalanxes, and perhaps weren't capable of it. They broke ranks and ran. Would I have directed it this way? No. But I think Jackson has done much better than I could have. Would I like him to go back and fix the whole series so it's just like the book? You bet. Am I beginning to sound like Rummy? Heavens no.

5. LOL
I know. Some liberties though...

My only beef as I said was the Legolas thing on the stairs.

I could actually heard the board members meeting to discuss how to better market the movie toward people who like EXTREME! sports. It really pissed me off.

6. I DESPISED the "shield-surfing"
I've decided I want cheesewire stretched at neck-height on all stairs just for anyone trying this. :-)

And I hear Faramir's going to sue for slander.

7. Beginning to sound like Rummy?
Maybe a little.:) Can you imagine trying to make a movie out of all the images that were in the books? Everyone takes a different view of what a movie should look like when it's based on a popular book. I just wish that Jackson had left out the humor about Gimli.

9. it was a suicide charge
think for a moment. everyone they know, and everything they love, are in the fortress about to be slaughtered by Orcs. A wizard, someone who has never led them wrong, leads the charge. once they broke the front wall of the phalanx, and were in the rear guard, the army fled.

Recall, Orcs hate light.

oh, shit. I'm sitting here analyzing a movie, based on a fairy tale, for veracity. more coffee for me boss.

12. Yeah, that was pretty laughable
As I saw them charging down to meet them, I thought to myself, "They're going to die!" It seemed certain to me that Jackson would not commit such an obvious error. But he did. Worse, it seems that no one at the front of that charge was even slightly wounded.

But what really irked me was the changed plotline regarding Faramir. And though Hugo Weaving is one of my favorite actors, I absolutely hate him as Elrond: "One of you must take it back to Mordor and cast it into the fiery chasm from whence it came!" I suspect Jackson's direction of Weaving is to blame for the raw haminess of his part.

11. Easy, fanboys

"Worst. Trilogy. Ever."

Peter Jackson could have said "fuck it" instead of making an adaptation of one of the greatest works of fantasy fiction, ever.

13. I think Peter Jackson brings a depth and humanity to the
characters that Tolkien never did.

I'm still amazed at the quality of the film adaptation. Best book to movie adaptation ever.
