Press does the Republican bidding
Has anybody else noticed but me that in the last couple of
weeks, almost nothing has been written or talked about with
regards to the Valerie Plame scandal? When the story first
broke, the press smelled blood in the water and went after the
story with a zeal, not seen around Washington since the fake
Monica Lewinsky scandal. Scott Mc.Clelland did his daily
briefings with the press all over him, trying to get some
nugget of information about why Karl Rove, Scooter Libby and
other would do such a treasonous act. Talk shows on the left,
were screaming with joy when they thought Bushco was in so
much trouble that it was only a matter of time before this
story would make the Watergate scandal seem like child's play.
But a funny thing happened on the way to the alter, the
mainstream press backed off when Republicans started screaming
about the press being so unfair to Bush. Not wanting to be
labeled as "liberal", the press in essence folded
the tents and moved on to other more mundane stories like
Iraq, the space shuttle, Natalee Holloway and John Roberts.
The Plame story was all but forgotten, and that was fine with
the Bushies.
During the past couple of weeks, it has become quite clear
that the mainstream press have become gutless cowards, weak in
the face of pressure from the right, and unable to keep focus
on a story that deserves all the attention it can get. The
outing of Plame goes straight to the heart of this nations
national security. Anyone who would deliberately destroy the
career of a CIA agent, just to play gotcha gutter politics
just because her husband disagrees with the decision to go to
war, should have his ass in jail for life. Rove, Libby and
anyone else involved in this insideous, disgusting coverup,
must be held accountable for their actions. It's time for the
press to get off it's collective asses and do their jobs.
