Any tips for a fucked tendon (strain/sprain)? |
|
Motherfucker...ok, I have a massive blister, which i'll be draining today, but it made me walk funny, and now I think I've strained a big ol tendon in my lower leg...every step is pain, pain, pain. x(
Paris is walking, walking, walking...i'm fucked for the moment, and it'll be back to the hotel for me today...goddamnit.
Suggestions? Ideas? And don't say ice, 'cause Paris has a decided lack of it, and i can't go walking around looking for it hither and thither....

1. OK, I won't say that word, but I'm thinking it really loud. |
|
Compression (like an Ace bandage) and keeping it elevated as much as you can are the only two other things I know of.
I'm really sorry you're having to go through this and I hope you feel better fast.

2. If I could get ice, I would |
|
but i don't think i can, especially with no legs to use x( what i need is crutches, but with these slippery cobblestones, i'd probably just make myself more injured, not less :P

Ice is good for joint-problems, heat for muscle tissue. Try warm water, gentle massage (which also helps circulation), and periodic elevation to alleviate inflammation (some inflammation is actually good-it helps repair damaged tissue, excessive inflammation is possible since it's an autoimmune function and subject to positive feedback loop.)

Not with a tendon injury. cold water first. Then after you do that for a few times, heat would work wonders, but, trust me, tendons will flare up like a sonofagun with heat. It'll make you cry yourself to sleep, no kidding. :)

8. aspirin to reduce inflammation |
|
try that for sure. If a drug store doesn't have an ice pack, then run cold water in a tub or a sink and soak it in there. It's every bit as effective as ice.
Mainly rest. It sucks that it happened on your trip, but you may just want to kick back for a day. Grab a book and just stay off it and relax. I've had many a terrible injury in my athletic career and really rest is the best thing.
A kiss from me would cure it right up, but, unfortunately, I'm on the other side of the world right now. :)

15. Heat for a pulled muscle. |
|
Hot compress applied to the area will help loosen the muscle quite a bit. Then, when you feel a little bit better, go to the nearest drugstore and get some Ben-Gay or some Icy Hot. I did this combo all the time when I used to be a runner. It does work. You might also need to get some Ace bandages to stabilize the area, just in case.

16. If you haven't gone to the drug store yet |
|
see if you can find some arnica gel. It's the herbal alternative to ben gay and is really effective for reducing inflamation. Also aloe gel will help your blister heal up quickly.
Feel better soon.
