Three more weeks until I kill my TV!!!!! |
|
Yep, the wife and I agreed that after this season of Six Feet Under (the only show we watch) we're yanking cable, and the local reception where we live is crap.
So I will do what I've always wanted to do....not watch TV ever!
The wife is experiencing some remorse now (even though it was her idea) but I'm guessing after a month, we'll wonder why we didn't do it years ago...

1. You'll definitely catch up on your reading |
|
I wish I could do that but I don't have the strength. When I'm at school I don't watch much TV but I could never give up the Daily Show

I realized that when we plot our schedule around watching Six Feet Under, as great of a show that it is, we are living for our TV rather than the other way around.
And yes, I plan to catch up on reading.
For lil' Taverner Jr., there will always be Wiggles and Blues Clues DVDs

5. I did it back in 1996. |

You will go through withdrawal for about 3 months. Then you will notice a lot more books getting read, more conversations with the people you love and your musical tastes will expand.
Another bonus is that you find yourself spending far less money than you normally would when you go shopping.
The downside is that when you do watch TV news, the reporters will look psychotic. (People who watch TV don't realize how evil the news looks.)
Welcome to the real world.

9. We don't watch much TV as it is |
|
The wife has her Dr. Phil fix (which I will NOT miss) and we usually go to bed afterwards...
But since Taverner Jr showed up, we watch a lot less TV...so this wont be too much of a change

6. I never watch regular TV anymore |
|
Thanks to a combination of DVR and TV shows on DVD, I havent seen a commercial in over two years!
And I couldnt give up watching TV. Because I watch baseball games and The Daily Show and I couldnt stop watching either of those.

7. best decision you'll ever make.... |
|
Right up there with "not drowning the kids" and "taking the red pill." Seriously-- I absolutely cannot imagine spending time in front of a television. I disconnected mine 10 years ago and have NEVER regretted it.

8. Another recruit to the no-TV massive! |
|
We should ask for a DU group. :)
The TV licencing people keep sending me nasty letters saying that I am risking a fine by not having a licence for my (non-existent) TV. That I might have no TV does not seem to enter their thoughts at all. I just wish they would stop threatening to send the inspectors round and actually do it...geez!

11. Whatever you do, don't become a dick about it. |
|
It's not for everyone. So, when someone whines about something on TV, don't haveyour stock answer be, "KILL YOUR TV!!!". OK, thanks. :)
Not saying you WOULD, but please don't.

12. I'm thinking of doing the same but... |
|
...then again Bill Maher and Curb your Enthusiasm will be coming soon.
Then again I'm still getting free HBO so I shouldn't complain
