Sleep problem- comments, advice, flames, welcome |
|
My whole life, I've slept on my stomach. I can't sleep any other way. This is a problem because I have a large bosom. I end up sleeping with several pillows under my head and neck and with my hands folded under my head. As you can imagine, I wake up with a lot of kinks in my neck and shoulders, and my hands are almost always asleep. My partner has a hearing disability, and if the phone rings at night, he has to deal with it without his hearing aid because I often lack the manual dexterity to answer the phone!
I've tried to change sleeping positions, on my back, on my sides, to no avail. I lay awake, staring at the ceiling until I roll over on my belly. It just feels wrong to me to sleep any other way. Anyone else have a problem like this?

3. You may need some physical therapy |
|
Nothing very exotic -- mainly exercises to strengthen the affected muscles.
Breast reduction surgery may also be worth considering (if that's the bosom of which you speak) but it's a radical step that many women choose to forgo.
Like the boner pill ads say: "Talk to your doctor."

5. Surgery is not an option |
|
I could care less either way, but my partner is most adamant that "the twins" remain as they are. This is the only request he's made in ten years, so I'll defer to him on this one. I've been seeing a masseuse every couple of weeks for the last year or so.

4. Try sleeping on your side |
|
hugging a pillow against your stomach. I had surgery for a ruptured appendix nine weeks ago, and like you, I liked to sleep on my stomach. After the surgery I couldn't because it hurt. So, I did the pillow thing and it worked. I had to try a few different sized pillows, but I finally found one that felt comfortable.

6. It's your mother's fault. That's how she laid you in the crib. |
|
My advice is blame your mother. Have lots of issues with her.

8. I would experiment with pillows. |
|
Have you tried full-body pillows, regular sized pillows (for the head), and so forth? You could try lying on your side with one leg slung over the pillow.
It sounds as though there might be other issues to consider (joints and posture, etc.), so you might want to talk to a doctor about this or go to a sleep clinic.

and surgery is a very radical option-and I see your partner requests the girls remain as made.
How about your mattress? Pillow top? I got one of those a few years ago and it is the business. A mattress does not last forever, so even if yours is old, that may be having a serious effect on your ability to sleep. Don't forget the box springs too. Cheaper than elective surgery.
There is also dense foam. My SIL who is large up top got dense foam on top of the pillow top and dense foam contoured pillows, and sleeps better
Good Luck!

10. I Can't Sleep On My Back Either |
|
Have you tried your side?
I usually do end up sleeping on my stomach, but I have different problems with my arms falling asleep because I sleep w/ them under the pillow, under my head, but I guess the pressure or position restricts the blood flow and they fall asleep and get numb all the time...
Hmm, now what's this you say about a large bosom?
