So what holidays are you into? |
|
Xmas and Easter do nothing for me. We're not Xians, so we don't celebrate them. I really like New Year's Eve, we always have a big party. Valentine's Day feels contrived to me. Memorial Day and 4th of July have been overrun by the Freeper-types, which is a shame because I really liked the 4th. Labor Day is pretty cool, I REALLY get into Halloween, and Thanksgiving is always nice. What holidays are you into?

1. Christmas is my favorite of all time, but then again |

I am a Christian. I also love Thanksgiving. Those are my two favorites. Easter is also a fave. But any holiday that gets me out of work is a fun one for me.

My nearest relative is my fundie Freeper brother. I don't ask and he doesn't offer, so holidays are pretty stress free for us.

9. I like the ones with good food |
|
Christmas time is a huge pain in the ass these days and isn't as fun as it was when I was in my 20s and younger. I don't consider myself a Christian, but Christian or not I believed in the spirit of the holiday and it has been lost in recent years. I like Thanksgiving because of all the good food. I don't consider Valentine's Day or Sweetest days as real holidays. I also don't look at Halloween as a real holiday. I guess if you have small children it is cool to see them dressed up, but I see no other reason to celebrate Halloween. New Year's Eve has been fun for the most part, it gives me an excuse to clean my house and have a party. Everyone brings good food and drink and I get to stay home, so it's pretty cool.

11. Christmas really the only one I get into |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 11:22 AM by mvd
I'm almost as big a fan as those on the Christmas.com board. I visit that board every day, though I don't always post. For me, it just has a feeling where you get lost in a magical realm of good - the opposite of what's really happening right now (a corrupt realm of evil under Bush.) So I find Christmas especially nice right now. I love Christmas music. I see family I appreciate. I like the giving and receiving. And still being a Catholic in name at least, I appreciate the religious aspect.

12. Halloween and Thanksgiving |
|
I like the idea behind Thanksgiving, the idea of reflecting on what's good in your life and having a cozy, non-greed filled time with family. And Halloween is just plain fun - hubby and I elaborately decorate our long driveway which winds through a wooded area. We have a cemetery, several skeletons and other ghouls, rats, cobwebs, giant spiders... it's a lot of work and a lot of fun and the funny part is, no one really sees it except for us and the few guests we have. But our neighbors like it and often bring visitors to check it out.
