Maybe it's because, biologically speaking, female is the "default" gender. Since this is the case, being stripped of your feminity would be essentially the same thing as stripping one of her humanity, isn't it?
Is there a word for that?
EDIT - stupid question: "dehumanize". Duh. :think:
