I just got an invitation to a bridal shower... |
|
I hate going to showers. I find them so boring, but I can't get out of this one. Well, there's three hours of my life I'll never get back. Does anyone else feel the same or do you love going to those things?:banghead:

I have two weddings in three weeks next summer, it wouldnt be so bad, but one is for my cousin Dana - whom is my best friend and the other is my younger brothers... I am the matron of honor in BOTH, so that means throwing twice the showers and twice the bachelorette parties (ok, thats not that bad ;)) but still...I get ya!

7. There's a chauvanist explanation for that. |
|
The traditional greeting when shaking the newlyweds' hands is to say congratulations to the groom and good luck to the bride. The groom already has his present: his new wife.

We don't expect a dowry anymore. That has to count for something.

5. I hate bridal showers! |

I like baby showers though, because the presents are usually adorable. Bridal shower presents are boring. "Ohh look, a blender from Brenda... thanks..."

You're so right...it's just 3-4 hours (plus gift $$$) torn out of your life you'll never get back.
Ooooh. Aaaah. Wow. Sooo cute.

Thankfully, I'm beyond the age when these things crop up very often. The only one I liked was the one I gave for my sister, which was just close family and friends.
I generally hate weddings as well, unless they are close family. How many of the people at these things really give a crap. I think the quest lists should be limited to those who do. It should also be borne in mind that everybody isn't quite as wowed by the events as the principals. I think these events would be a lot more palatable if they were shorter.
I just went to a second wedding that was not bad at all. I'm beginning to like second weddings better than firsts. Less nonsense.

10. As long as they serve alcohol, I don't mind. |
|
I'll even drink lots of white wine at a shower, and I loathe white wine.

I'm happily childfree.
Nothing like sitting in a room for a few hours with ex moms or soon to be moms talking about that stuff I REALLY would rather not hear.
"Oh, I remember when I had MY episiotomy! It hurt like a mutherfucker!"
You don't say. :eyes: FSC

17. Yeah, I've always wondered |
|
how generation after generation of women can gleefully recount the pain and horrors of childbirth to the uninitiated, - and more to the point, why those uninitiated don't run from the room screaming.

12. I think these are holdovers from another age |
|
when women were desperate to get out of the house, and really looked forward to escaping and hanging out with their women friends and relatives, because they were stuck at home all the time.
I hate them hate them hate them hate them. But what do I know, I've been shacked up for 13 years, and if we ever do get hitched, no one will want to give us anything...

We bowl on the same team and I'm the captain. My best friend is on the team also. So there's really no way of getting out of it without some feelings being hurt. I'll just have to suck it up.

I hated my own and didn't even want it. But my best friend who was my matron of honor (a term I cordially hate - isn't there a better one?) threw it for me so it would have been the ultimate in rudeness not to go. ~sigh~ What I really should have skipped though was the wedding. Ah, well, live and learn...
