Why do some fathers think their daughters are goddesses?
Just got back from visting my brother's family. They have 2 daughters. I was there for about 4 hours. I should say we are not that close, and the last time we saw each other was a few months ago.

During the time I was there, at the parent's request (not mine) - the daughters were asked to play their musical instruments. Everyone sat very still while they did so. Afterward, the older daughter (14) was asked to model a few of her new dresses. Much ado was made about what type of shoes she would wear to the next dance. The younger daughter was asked to recite a recent poem that she had written. Then, there was much talk about the girls' swim meets and upcoming school and vacation.

I wanted to tell my brother - I like your kids, but come ON!

Edited on Tue Aug-02-05 09:41 PM by pitohui
my dad did this

i used to be told that i was descended from cherokee princesses

then finally i was told, well, actually, to the cherokee, every little girl is a princess! -- and believe you me, it was not my dad or his family that revealed this little fact

i hated performing, i still hate music, poor kids, they were probably just as miserable as you

5. My daughter is a goddess ...

There's not why to it. What is, is. Next question.

Now, having her model anything but her rapier wit is not something I'd find appropriate, but such external trappings have nothing to do with her goddess status.

13. I don't have kids.
I like his kids - they're great. But is it necessary for them to be the only topic of discussion when I am only visiting for a short while?

I adore my cats, my boyfriend, my job and much else. However - I don't talk about these things to the exclusion of all else when people visit me.

18. no kids yet--
but I LOVE it when parents are proud of their kids showing off their acomplishments and work on building their self-esteem.

So many families now are broken and don't get a hoot about the kids--your brother is a great man in my opinion.

I kept waiting for the offensive part. Or the obnoxious part.

Where was it?

How was that treating them like they're goddesses? Help me out here.

As for other subjects, did you bring anything else up? Maybe he didn't know what to talk about and his daughters were an easy topic to cover?
