Man Pleads Guilty To Chasing Neighbors With A Sword While Naked

A North Liberty man accused of chasing his neighbors with a sword after they complained about him standing nude in his front year has pleaded guilty.

Curtis Rarick, 45, of 245 S. Front St., pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine upon conviction.

According to North Liberty police reports:

About 2:45 p.m. Feb. 27, officers responded to a Front Street residence for a reported altercation. The victims told police Rarick was in his front yard naked and he got upset when they told him to put clothes on. Rarick then went inside his residence, retrieved a sword with a 2-foot, 6-inch blade and chased and threatened his neighbors on their property.

Police also arrested Rarick for public intoxication after tests showed he had a .12 blood-alcohol level. The charge was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Rarick will be sentenced Sept. 16 in Johnson County District Court.
