I seem to remember a plot line very close to the Scarlett/Ewan movie currently in release (and flopping).

by Peter Benchley (capitalizing on his Jaws success). It was about a deserted island occupied by pirates who were responsible for all the disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle :).
Well . . . the movie was horrid. The book was okay, not great, but readable. :)
